Uh Oh ... Savage 99 in 32-40

Would you consider the same? I've really felt the need for a 32-40 gun and I love the 99.

All depends on what you can live with or without. I'll say one thing about that Savage, it's a really nicelooking rifle.

If that rifle is "right", I'll give you an instant $500 profit. I smell a rat as the receiver does not have the high gloss finish that originals did. The rear sight is replaced and that bothers me a bit. The bolt looks too bright. Wood to metal fit appears to have a slight gap. Case colors on the lever are far from vivid, like they should be on a 99% gun. I could be wrong but the gun looks like a professional refinish.

32-40 and 38-55 Savage '99's in 80% condition bring 16-18. A near new specimen like that will bring in the high twos, close to three.

I have never liked a description where the owners says, "my buddy or my gundealer says its original." Kinda takes the blame off of him if there's a problem.-------Get a three day inspection------------Sixgun

That's a cool rifle. But I agree with Sixgun. The bolt is too polished looking and the levers case coloring is much too faded as compared to how bright the bluing is, they don't show the same aging. Still a cool rifle.

I love the look of the 99 and have handled a few but have never owned one. The only thing I noticed was that the sight looked odd for a factory Savage. But I'm obviously not a Savage expert and would not have picked up on the bolt polish or the receiver being dull. Now that I've looked more closely, it worries me that there's no carry wear on the bottom of the receiver, no wear at all on the butt plate, and the wood is just too clean. Even in a safe they get bumped up over the years.

I'm currently trying to find a nice 32-40 in a 94 or a Savage 99 and this one just caught my eye. I will probably be at the Lakeland gun show this weekend where I'll likely run into several long arms in 32-40 so I will pass on this one for now. I know I could have one of the John Wayne commemoratives on any of the auction sites ... but that's just not for me.

I was in A.W. Petersen's shop (Tavares, FL.) the other day and admired his many old competition single-shots hanging on the walls ... many in 32-40. Plus a lot of other guns that weren't to be touched. I hadn't been to that gun shop in 18 years and it has barely changed since my last visit.
