Saw an interesting B 86

Post by 1886 »

I was in one of my favorite haunts today and they had an interesting rifle set aside for me. It is an 86 manufacture grade I 86 .45-70 octagon barreled "short rifle". By short rifle I mean 18" tube with full length (approx. 17.5") mag. tube and the top of the barrell was drilled and tapped for some sort of scout scope set up. Sling studs were also present. The traders claim the person they bought this rifle from swore up and down that this was a rare Browning configuration for the 86. I do not beleive it is a factory job. It looks like a chopped 86 but the work is good and the condition of the rifle is mint. Price $900.00. I would appreciate your thoughts. Neat little rifle and very handy. Regards. 1886.

They were never made, at least not by Browning. Custom job. You have to decide whether you like it. If it fits you, 9 c-notes is a fair price. But...........with the alternation, I bet you could get it for 7.
You have to keep in mind that short barreled 45-70's tend to jump out of your hand with heavy loads. It why I like the full size 26" ers. Your call---------Sixgun

Somebody wanted a Browning 1886 "Guide Gun."

That said, it sounds like a keeper.

It sounds like a nicely styled custom '86. I'd sure like to see some pics of it. 8)

Let me know if you're interested in another, similar Browning 86. I've decided that 2 45-70s is enough, and this Browning makes 3 for me.

The barrel has been cut to 18.5 inches, button magazine, receiver has been drilled and tapped for a side mount, and the stock has been cut for a recoil pad and a small piece of wood added at the heel.

I have a bunch more pics. I will take $650 +actual shipping for this.
