WAY OT: home school resource

Post by Grizz »

The subject of home schooling comes up sometimes. As someone who has done it, I know how intimidating it seems. But as someone who has done it, I cannot emphasize enough how glad we are that we did it, and how much it has shaped our children's lives.

I did not use this curriculum, but I wish I had it. At the time there wasn't a lot of alternatives. This looks to me to be a good one.

Recently I saw a statistic that said a quarter to a third of school kids are never graduated from high school. Can you imagine if that high a percentage of airline flights failed?

This is why you see courses like Hooked on Phonics and Sylvan Learning Centers all over the place.

It's sad to see kids crash and burn. I believe home schooling is the antidote. If you're considering it, please explore this website:

http://www.robinsoncurriculum.com/

The results the Robinson kids have achieved are spectacular. If you want your kids to be something different than the industrial product, this is the way to go I think.

This material could be the core of a private school cooperative. A whole business could function with this core curriculum.

There are also major Home-Education conferences. My wife and I spoke at one last Saturday. There was an entire gymnasium filled with different companies, organizations, and publishers with a wide variety of curricula to choose from. Home education is one of the best investments a couple can make in their children. If you can hook up with a home-schooling association, you will have access to all sorts of things.

Thanks for the heads up on this Grizz.

Thanks for telling this we home schooled our 19 year old grandson. we took him out of public school in the last semester of the eighth grade. public school here is a pure waste of a child's life.I ordered books and material from several differrent sources, all christian companies. He passed the GED test the first time and started college at 17, a year ahead of the school class he was in. I would tell anyone with young children to home school them, they will be so much better off for it.I think all states have home school associations so get hold of them and start them out the right way.
Kirk, I forgot to say that their is a home school convention at Harding University in Searcy Arkansas every May just south of us where my reloading shop is, thats where we got started.
