i have a puma m92 in the 454 casull 20in barrel i am wanting to put a scope on it like a scout mount.has anyone had this done if so what products did you use and how much was the gunsmithing charge?

yes i have seen this on the puma site they are selling what looks like a standard weaver base for 60.00 bucks and it requires a gunsmith to drill and tap the barrel.i didnt know if there was another method or way.

Check out B-Square's no-drill mount - mine works fine, but it is on a long barrel .357, and it gets little recoil. Some say they are poorly made, but not mine, it was well made, easy to install, and works well.

On a .454 I'd use a very lightweight scope so there isn't too much inertia to torque off the mount (with most any mount this is a factor to some degree).

yes i think this is what i want do i need to get my stick welder out to install the mount?lol

The reviews made me hesitate to buy one but I bought the first one from a local dealer after actually handling it and seeing for myself it wasn't 'junk' - after it worked (300 rounds of .357's including some hot loads, and mounted/dismounted it several times with no detectable effect on zero (as far as bouncing soda cans at 50 yards), I bought two more from Midway (cheaper) since I have three Rossi's, and might eventually scope all of them. I haven't scoped the short .357 because I have a long one scoped, and I have scoped the .44 mag Rossi but usually use the tang sights.

I like the mounts, but still, on the Casull wouldn't use one with a long or heavy scope; the design just doesn't seem right for that. It is almost the exact mount used on the Mini-14's, and I've shot several THOUSAND rounds through that with no mount failure, but I stick to small scopes on that gun as well.

I almost mounted the scope so the adjustment turrets were up and left rather than up and right sides, fearing brass would hit the turret and not eject properly. Only maybe 30 rounds through the .44 and they've all ejected ok, but the .357 has had ten times as many and they all went over my shoulder like usual.

ajmd thank you for the pics i think i will go for this with a small compact lightweight scope as you said.does the ejected shells hit the scope?
