The first day of spring 2015 here in northern NH....pics
The temperature was 4 above this morning on the first day of spring. The only thing remarkable was it wasn't below zero!
And we have snow...lots of snow!
Our driveway is 1000 feet which I plow. The driveway on the 1st day of spring, 2015:
...and house:
I'm sure we haven't seen the last snowfall for the year, either!
I love winter! February and March are 2 of my favorite months of the year. This has been a good winter in northern NH!

I'm dreaming of a White Easter - Just like the ones we used to know....
Where the treetops glisten and children listen, to hear those sleigh bells in the snow.......
I'm dreaming of a White Easter - With every Easter egg I dye...
May your days be very........ bright....
And may all your Easter's be as white

I don't like the cold and I hate snow,at least that much but beautiful country for sure!

A friend of mine in Maine just told me that they had 120 inches of snow this year and that set an all time record. He said it will likely be there for a couple more months too!

We get stuck on top or near the top of snowfall for cities over 100k all too often here in syrause. I wish they would drop that down to 25 k for all the folks that do get more snow than us

A big difference between New Hampshire and Old Hampshire, I didn't even have to get out the snow shovel this year
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.

crs,
Your friend speaks the truth. It's been brutal this winter. When I got out of work Friday morning it was a few degrees below zero. Its getting late for those temps now but it just won't let up.
Got a few inches of snow last night.
Went snowshoeing Friday morning thinking maybe the snow had settled out enough to make it good going, we've had a couple of warmish days. I was sinking to my knees breaking trail.
After a couple miles of that I stopped and boiled up with my twig stove, had a cup of tea and thought it over. Decided to go back to the truck in the float ( trail ) I had just made and call it good.
Probably the only thing to survive the winter is rabbits and moose on stilts.

Snowing right now in Buffalo NY. AGAIN!
Re: The first day of spring 2015 here in northern NH....pics
That was Wisconsin last winter. Near record snow fall and cold weather. Had 59 days where the temp didn't get above 0 . It was the longest winter that I can remember. Just when we thought spring was here we got 8 inches of snow on May 2nd. The only positive is that I cast so many bullets last spring, because I couldn't do much else, that I don't need to cast any this year.

That's a pretty good cold snap Ben.
Last winter was bad here too but there was at least a layer of stiffer snow about half way down. This winter it was at or below zero all winter and the snow is all fluff right to the bottom. Worst part has been the cussed wind. Seems like its been blowing all winter really bad. That, with the cold, has made it unbearable.

I'd love to say every image I take comes out as good. But truth is, since I refuse to photoshop stuff unless it's for giggles, I still take many photos and various ISO's, f-stops, shutter speeds, filters etc. to get what I want.
I did photoshop this one at the request of a friend who wanted it this way to hang on his office wall.

Oh Lordy,
Very nice Victor! I must admit, those long winters would have me to the shrink. If I don't start playing in the sunshine by the end of Feb., the demons set in. Seriously, Arjunky was telling me about the winters in the Dakotas, along with Old Win. and his experiences in the north woods of New England......there's no way I could make it that long.
We all two sides to our personality and my bad half is dealing with the wintertime blues......that's why I'm an incurable screw up and jokester....keeps me happy till the sun starts shining.
I know exactly how Robin Williams felt.----6

It's 82 here today and I am breaking out the shorts. Probably won't wear long pants again til mid September during dove season. Will have to mow grass next week

Ah yes, I remember mowing lawns. Then I had two unpaid servants to do it. Sadly they grew up and moved out. Now I just pay someone.octagon wrote:It's 82 here today and I am breaking out the shorts. I'd rather deal with the cold and/or snow than freezing rain/ice anytime but this winter has been brutal compared to last year. Just this past weekend a good friend of mine and his son tried to get up to camp on sleds. They ditched the sleds half way up the mountain, snow was too deep so they snow shoed the rest of the way. What normally takes about 40 minutes by truck took them 3 hours! While walking up to camp they took a couple of snow pack measurement's. Average was between 5'-6' but some spots got up to 7'

Last winter was the same here. It was cold right away the snow stayed powder all winter. My daughter stopped riding her horse because it was belly deep in snow.( I wouldn't like it if my junk was dragging in the snow either) The coyote hunters could not run their dogs all winter because of all the powder. This winter was the opposite for snow , yote hunters were running their dogs every weekend.OldWin wrote:BenT wrote:That was Wisconsin last winter. Near record snow fall and cold weather. Please just remember, all that snow was caused by global warming, it was on tv so it must be true. God Bless.
