I didn't understand what the fuss was about Sixguns's pictures while reading through the thread so I went back and looked 'em over again.
Actually the one with all the skins is pretty humorous since they're all lined up in a row.

Nothing special, but I just picked up this old 38wcf. Shipped to Wyeth's in St. Joseph, MO March 6th 1906. Safety notch needs welded, but the bore and chambers are nice. I need to replace those fake pearls quick.

Usually an old mixed serial number colt (1880 frame, and 1892 trigger guard and grip frame) with post-war 38spl barrel and cylinder goes with me hunting. No pictures of that one yet.

Your gun is a nice old unabused specimen. Used but not all beat up. Nice......

Without spending $300-$500 for a set of first gen grips that probably won't fit it anyway, I would get a set of third gen hard rubbers....repo's would be just as fine.......have them fit perfectly to the frame....then a little sanding, polishing, rubbing, whatever.....to make them look old would really set your gun off nice.-------6

I've got a set of repro 1st gen grips saved just for this. I heard you could use screen door material to 'age' them too. I'll play with them and post the results.

Good move.....remember, your not trying to deceive....just have the gun look more realistic as any seasoned Colt guy will know the difference.

The big thing is for them to fit the grip frame properly....nothing turns me off more than gaps and crooked lines........never heard that about the screen door thingy.....but after thinking about it, the screen mesh will have about the perfect abrasive consistency to do the job.......I learn something new everyday.

That is just awesome. And in a great caliber (one of my favorites).

It would look cool with some yellowed ivory grips too.

Well I just picked up my first, not as neat with history like i'm seeing here, but a saa just the same. Colt single actions are just not very common in southern Il, the few I see in gun shows around here are always priced way outside my abilities to pay. But when I walked into my LGS and saw a new 3rd generation, I decided it was time. So after Illinois wait period it came home, a 5 1/2" blue/color case in .45.

I have a couple 3rd generations but no pix. (I know, a lotta good THAT does.)

A .45 and a 44-40. The 44wcf gets the most work. Love'em both.
