Savage 99 22HP with heavy bbl?

Friend had one of these with a heavier than normal looking barrel from what I have seen. Probably 3/4" diameter at the muzzle. Savage marked barrel. He bought it about 1960 or so. He said that he cannot find it in any book, and he has had 40 or so Savage 99's, but said this is the only heavy barrel gun he has ever seen. Anyone else know of any guns with barrels like this?

I've seen them, Savage made them, they are quite scarce, and they add quite a bit to the value of the rifles they are on.
