Hey guys, has anyone heard from Mike D.? I have emailed him a number of times, and had no response at all. For those of you who do not know, Mike had a growth removed from his neck that unexpectedly turned out to be cancerous. He is undergoing chemotherapy, and has been very ill due to the treatments. He could really use our prayers.
While I have never even spoken to him by phone yet, we were emailing about getting together prior to all this happening. We seem to have a number of common interests, and he just felt like a friend. I miss his presence on the forum.
If any of you have heard something recent. please cue me in by PM or on this post.
Thanks, and say a prayer for my absent friend, who might be fighting for his very life.
I PMed MikeD soon after he had his neck surgery. He didn't answer but I have seen him post a couple of times since his surgery. Hobie is right in that the last time he was posting it was about lead free bullets and where he could get some for his rifles. He was pretty distressed about maybe having to give up some of his lever guns.
If you see these posts Mike, our best wishes go out to you.
If he had to have his thyriod gland removed, then I know it's going to take on the order of six months (minimum) to nine months to stabilize a replacement hormone , a maintainence dosage of synthriod.
The initial dosage is an educated guess by the endrinicolgist, then adjusted every three months or so in tiny amounts, because the body take so very long to react to those tiny hormonal changes. Large changes cannot be made, lest the body is damaged or treatment becomes fatal.
Meanwhile, the patient can feel miserable, since the now departed thyroid gland controlled the metabolism of the entire body, and without the correct amount of hormone, one feels ill, cold/hot, weak - and several other functions don't work as well, either.
With the warmer Summer weather coming, however - I'm sure he'll start to feel better soon.
The last I heard from him was February 7th in a PM. He told me that he had not be able to keep food down because the treatments were making him so sick. The day he wrote me was the first day he had been able to eat successfully. He wasn't sure if it was a fluke or not.
I'm concerned because I've sent him two PM's since then and not heard anything back. I hope he is as good as can be expected, but I'm concerned as that was two months ago.
Got a reply from Mike! Haven't answered him yet, and hopefully he won't mind if I post his message. I told him that the levergunners were thinking and praying for him! Let's keep it up.
Hey Chris,
I'm still hangin' in there. Haven't ben able to shoot in several months, but times are looking up. My treatments are over and I'm working on getting my strength back, but it's been a long, tough road. Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers, it means the world to me.
Best regards,
Mike

Hey y'all, I am here!:D It's just that being on the computer was making me very dizzy, but that has diminished and typing is now relatively easy. So far, I am still a physical wreck, down to 153 lbs, and trying to fill out. B'lieve me, it IS a slow process.
I just ate a tuna sandwich for lunch and washed it down with a 7 Up. YUM! Solid food is my steady diet and the feeding tube will soon be a thing of the past. Shoot, I don't use it any more anyway.
Still not able to get out and shoot. In fact, I haven't touched my reloading stuff in a few months. Just ain't been up to it, plus I have tons of ammo already stoked up. As my physical well being improves, things will be lookin' up and the blasting can resume.
I have only been on a couple of outings, once to the ranch to check out our new cherry orchard being planted and once just for a cruise in the boonies. With fuel now nearly 4 bucks/gal pleasure driving will be curtailed, that's for sure.
Your thoughts and prayers are deeply appreciated, you can bet on that. Please keep me in them and I'll do my best to keep up with the forum.
Kindest regards,
Mike D.

Good to hear from you, Mike! (7 Up? ..... I would have thought that the tuna sandwich would go down better with a glass of Glenmorangie, 'Traditional'!) May God be with you and speed your recovery.

Remember I'm that apple/pear grower up here in Wa. State. I thought I remembered you were the fruit grower from California. This was the first I'd heard of you being sick. Sure am sorry to hear that. Hope the worst is over for you now and there will be good times ahead.
When you get out there with that new cherry planting that will make you feel better for sure. GEEZ I LOVE SPRING!!!
Keep your chin up pard!!!! Frost season is just starting for us up here by the Canadian border. The cherry guys have been protecting for the last couple of weeks. All I have is pears and apples, so my turns coming.
