Friday I drove to the plinking zone with a friend. We hauled an assortment of tools. One of my favorites is the Marlin 39. My spotter tells me I was keeping the little bullets in a 3" cluster at 45 yards. I wasn't stunned, but I wasn't too disappointed either. I have a Williams receiver sight and I used a dusk aperture.
Then I tested the bear stopping scenario by shooting a couple of 525g PileDrivers from the GS into a douglas fir firewood round. Well, through the round, a distance of 13.5".
Here's the OT part. I followed with a 405g cast bullet from my 5.5" Redhawk.

Yeah it looks very promising. I posted up some energy charts, don't know if they were on that thread when you looked at it. I'm going to look for an even 950fps. You can see why in the ballistic charts. I can get equal performance past 50 yards. That's plenty good for my needs.
Marshall thinks that round will feed thru the B92 if I relieve the cartridge stop on the lifter. Can you imagine a trapper length carbine chucking the 405g bullets? It's kind of exciting.
