OT - child rearing

Doug Giles is a firebrand preacher, radio talk-show host, author and columnist who's weekly articles appear in www.townhall.com (usually on Saturdays). He is something of a male Ann Coulter in his no-holds-barred style. Last weekend's column on problems with kids was spot on:

Especially the last paragraph, where he really nails the cause of most of the problem kids nowadays:

"Are you ready? Here’s your answer: Pathetic parents + kids who’ve never had their butt whipped + psychobabble BS + a whopping entitlement mentality + Johnny can do no wrong attitude from the parental unit + too much self-esteem + blowing off God for secularism + violent movies, music, and video games + educators getting their hands tied behind their backs (both figuratively and now, nearly literally) = demonic third graders who’ll plan to duct tape a teacher and slit her throat if she happens to righteously rebuke them."

I just wish more people in our society understood that all the garbage we pass to children - instead of raising them - is just going to haunt them later!

Everyone should homeschool or private school. Too bad the government sucks our paychecks and taxes our property so they can pay $9,000 a head to 'educate' our kids. Don't you think you could do it yoursef or hire a tutor if you had $9,000 per kid?

I think that is truly the way to save a generation of children, having worked in the Public School system. It may also be the only way that we can save our country from becoming a secular/humanist/socialist wasteland in the next 20 years.

On the one hand, it does seem like kids are out of control. On the other hand, adults have been expressing their disdain for younger generations since the beginning of civilization. I can't recall it off the top of my head, but there is a quote from a Greek philosopher esentially saying the ancient greek version of "You dang kids and your music . . ."

Of course, there is some evidence that out of control youth are taking things to a new extreme. I saw a news report on a group of teenage girls who beat the stuff out of another girl for something like 20 minutes for spreading myspace rumors. I guess trapped her in a house while two teenage boys stood as lookouts.

It does almost seem like we're headed for a future where roving bands of young psychpaths wreak havoc throughout the land.
