Airgun Pistols/Revolvers
Is there an Airgun Pistol that matches or at least comes real close to matching the power of the Airgun Rifles discussed in the "Airgun Advice" thread from the other day?
Are there any that would cleanly kill a squirrel, rabbit, rats, etc.?

Not really AFAIK.Modoc ED wrote:Is there an Airgun Pistol that matches or at least comes real close to matching the power of the Airgun Rifles discussed in the "Airgun Advice" thread from the other day?
Yep. Within range and within reason. Are there any that would cleanly kill a squirrel, rabbit, rats, etc.?
Looky here: http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/show. ... gory_id=26
I have a Crosman 1377. It has killed a number of small critters with a single pellet through the Head or Boiler as far out as 50ft.
However, tis one gives you a true 1000fps... http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.pl?model_id=961

Back in the mid '80s I picked up a Crosman 1377 pump pistol in .177. I used it to pop doves in my yard and rats in my mango tree. It later was inherited by my eldest son who used it well at dispatching rats in my Maui Avocado trees as well as the Francolins that came on my property. Not sure about power to pop bunnies except with a head shot. 10 pumps really got her going good.

Years ago now I use to use air pistols to take pheasants
I used to use a Crosman 1322. A friend and me would sometimes hunt squirrels with air pistols, it involved running the treed squirrel untill it was tired and then attempt to fill it with so much lead untill it fell out of the tree for the dogs. Good sport actually. The friend in question here use to use a Wierauch HW45 air pistol and it was very good, I have witnessed him take rabbits in the head a few times but the most impressive one was a shot at 45 yds through the head! Oh and the bore was 177
This was many years ago now, it has been a long time since I shot an air pistol.

The sights SUCK and the pump will give you a blood blister with a quickness.
I'vesort of fixed the sight issue, but I have to order a custom set of real wood grips & "fat" pump to get over the blood blister problem.

yes there are many that do. I would suggest going to this site: www.adventuresinairguns.com and pose the question to Randy, the site owner on the forum. He has pictured one of the recommended pistols.

Modoc Ed,
The Crosman 1377 is rated at 600 fps by the factory. That'd probably be with the light weight, alloy pellets and not with lead. Anyway, there's plenty of folks who customize them. I put a Crooked Barn breech on mine and plan a few other modifications as time and $ allow. You can get into one for about $50 new and they're quite accurate. There's TONS of info on the internet on how to slick them up. I like the way you can vary the power from cat scatting 2 pumps to bunny plinking 10 pumps (or more - with mods). I'd not seen that Evanix that was posted above. Looks interesting, but I prefer open sights myself.

I think I read somewhere that if you want greater FPS it also helps to install a longer barrel... Anyway, those should get you headed down the road towards a custom 1377...

I bought mine at a Garage sale for $15.00 15 yrs ago. It was like new. Later I found out why the guy sold it, the rear sight would not adjust and it shot far right. A small rat tail file took care of the burr and I have a tack driver now.GANJIRO wrote:Back in the mid '80s I picked up a Crosman 1377 pump pistol in .177. I shoot only pellets and it has many hundreds of Thompson ground Squirrels to its credit.

No that is with the 7.8grain pellets. They have listed that speed for as long as I can remember. The alloys are new on the scene.AmBraCol wrote:Modoc Ed,

Using the domed HP's my 1377 is death on rabits and ground squirrels out to 15 yards with 10 pumps. Yes the sights suck but Crossman makes scope rings that clamp to the barrel for the use of pistol scopes.

...or you could go with a Benjamin. I'm sure Mac1 could do a tune up on it if you really needed it. Mine is in .22 to match my rifle. The Benjamin has wood where the Crossman has plastic.

I killed squirrels and rabbits with my Crosman 130 (predecessor to the 1377) and have killed squirrels and oppossoms with my Webley Tempest.

If you kick around the airgun modification forums and such you'll probably find a source for seals for your pistol. It's amazing what's out there.20cows wrote:Wow, I just looked at the Cossman wesite and figured out the one I have was made in 1953-54!
"Parts no longer available through Crossman."
At least I was able to download a parts diagram ans the owner's manual.
