Nor'Easter shoot.. PA get together.

Post by cas »

It's time to get serious on picking a date for our annual.. sometimes biannual, sometimes semi annual   "Big Nor'Easter shoot and get together."

Ok.. what's left of it anyway. What was once a very large, wild and wooly event with many people... has become a rather tame day at the rifle range and a couple nights around the campfire for a handful of friends. Not what it used to be by any means, but it still beats a weekend of yard work and watching TV. (Bucks county PA, for those interested. What was traditionally a "sixgunner" event turned heavily towards rifles the last couple years, so I post it here)

Come meet Sixgun (and his many talents ) in person.

If the resident "last of the few" (as well as any new interested parties) would please come by the "NE board" and chime in so we can come up with a workable date, it would be appreciated.

Sounds great! When were you thinking of holding this get-together, roughly?

Please post the details when they are set - I'd love to come - although not sure if the wife would love for me to come. With 3 small children at home my "free" weekend time is always limited - plus I like to bank some time for hunting seasons and when the insects start hatching on our limestone spring creeks.

"Big Nor' Easter" shoot in BUCKS County? In SOUTHeast PA?

Someone's geographically challenged . . . :D

I'd like to, but early May is shot for me each weekend:

2,3,4 May -- York show
10-11 May -- Allentown Show, and move daughter home from DeSales U for summer
17 May -- Wedding
23-24-25 -- Twice-yearly trip to Manhattan for a couple B-way plays and general high-falutin' cultural infusion.

That got me thinking... is this a family-friendly type of thing?

I'd love to bring my two daughters.... one (14) belongs to the local club with me and shoots pistol mostly, the other is younger (6) but would get a real kick out of it... she does archery with my now and I'll soon teach her to shoot too.....

Yes, it's family friendly. The "Nor'Easter Shoot" was started about the same time as the CSA gathering back at the turn of the millennium. One of the original participants was PCM - one of the firefighters who was murdered by fanatic muslims on September 11 of 2001. These gatherings around the country are all made up of great folks who love to get together to enjoy the shooting sports and a time of camaraderie together. I'd encourage you to look into participating.

We've been down this road before. The other events at the time were in Washington/Oregon(can't recall which) and Mississippi I believe. Along with a mid west gathering, so we were the North East by default. :D

I have to say... it isn't much of an "event" at all. It was at one time, but now it's just a fairly standard range outing, followed by BS'ing around the camp fire at night.

OK, here's the plan------and how it works-----------EVERYBODY from the board is invited and friends of theirs. This includes wives and children. This is the one time in the year I behave myself. I bring a large amount of soap to wash my mouth out everytime a four letter word slips :D And yes, according to CAS, I have many talents not related to shooting. If your gas tank in your vehicle is empty on arrival, I can fill it up :D :D

The gig is nothing fancy, just camping in tents and if you have a camper, thats cool, but there are no hook-ups. There are a couple of outhouses. CAS usually guards these and can help with the wiping. :D :D

The shooting is from 25-100 yards. I usually bring steel and everyone is welcome to bring steel. CAS brought his and I made sure I destroyed it! My steel is armor plate and cannot be hurt. You can bring one gun or 50. You can bring one box of ammo or 50. You can always take it home. I usually bring 20 guns and a couple of thou. in ammo. Everyone is welcome to shoot it and my guns. (except CAS)

We bring guns to sell and other junk to swap. Bring your woman and we can swap her. The laughing begins when we get there and does not stop until we leave. If you only want to stay one day, thats cool. I believe the owner charges $10 a day for range use.

Homefront, I sincerely apologize for my remarks I made in the past. I suffer from over-analization and wintertime depression (for real). Please come, we would love to meet you and swap lies.

Bring your cameras to remember the blast we will have.

CAS, I'm a union man and am good-to-go anytime. The sooner the better as I hate the heat.

I wish I could talk my son into coming. Southwest Airlines now has non-stop flights from/to Philly to Denver for $99. 'Ya hear me John, I will pay your flight and ammo is unlimited. YOU will be in charge of the Rubicon---------------------Come on guys--the hype is starting-----------Sixgun

Other points to note: This is held at Wicens, a public shooting range, open to the public. It's not a private event. Years back we had a section of the range to ourself, now days we just grab a couple benches.

In all honestly, shooting has dropped down quite a bit in terms of importance at these get togethers I guess. I used to bring a couple dozen guns and a few thousand rounds of ammo. Now I bring a couple guns and a little ammo.

With matches and two (well three) jobs, "when" will be tougher for me. (but in reality I'm only going so Sixgun will have someone to talk to)

Wicens! No fooling? That's around 35 minutes from me, tops.

Nice!

CAS, since when did you get a job? I thought you were allergic to those things.

Well, looks like I have no one to talk to now. Guess I'll bring one of my dogs.----Sixgun

What town is Wicens?

I put all the info back up on the header of the Nor'Easter board.

Map Quest and GPS location, range website and Weather.
http://disc.yourwebapps.com/Indices/228680.html

We're still not 100% sure right now. Some new things have come up, as well as more recent changes at the range. I'm waiting to see how/if it will effect us and if we can do this or not.

Wicen's isn't a town, its the name of a range on an old farm in the town of Furlong started by two brothers named Wicen. Info is:
