Three Characters Meet

Post by Griff »

Levergunners, 3 in number met for dinner and talkin', 2 gentlemen and a truck driver!

We covered a lot of ground, realized that for our very different backgrounds, leverguns are a common factor and bond. Rainy nite, and no opportunity to shoot, we still admired each other's choices in guns, discussed some questions and probably would have cured all the world's ills, but it got a little late and the two gentlemen had to drive home in the rain. I felt bad for intruding on their time, and hope I sufficiently voiced my appreciation. If not... I'll try again here. Thank you both. I look forward to our next meeting, may it be at the field of marksmen, with the smell of gunpowder, maybe even a little sulphur!

The discussion ebbed and flowed around forks and sip of soda water, I hope we left well stated... I did.

Griff, it sounds like ya'll had a good time meeting, eating and talking levers. Glad you could arrange it.

I was blessed by the company, food, discussion, and discovering the beginning of new friendships. You come this way again, please call. We all had a lot more in common than just leverguns. I really enjoyed the visit. Safe travels.

Well... delivered a load of stuff (technical name for "freight of all kinds"), in Tampa Wednesday nite, and picked up a load of sugar in Winter Haven on Thursday morning. Us Southerners know that Yankees need a little sweetenin' to be allowed out in public!  While down there it seemed like I just had enough time to go to Wal-Mart, then close my eyes. Had to be up here tonite.

 'Sides, I wasn't ready for high-summer heat and humidity this early in the year... tomorrow I go over by Allentown to pick up "something" and head to Oregon... ("Something" = designation for, I don't know what it is yet!)

C.Cash, next time, I promise.

TedH, I'm thru Misery all the time... I try to avoid it... but since the company my trucks are leased to is based there...

Griff is edjimicated too but he tries to downplay it. Fine fellow.

Griff, you could probably go broke stopping to have lunch, coffee, etc, with levergunners all around the country.

that would be interesting. It has been a real pleasure to meet up with the levergunners I have met. I think I have only met 6 and I hope to meet a lot more.

I keep the "tinfoil hat" in place on my GPS. Uncle Sugar has more than enough minions to track!

Hobie, I try NOT to buy, but it seemed my protestations that is was my "treat" were not outweighed by theirs! And, yes, I've attended an institution of higher learning or two... much to their dismay! Unlike rjohns94 & olderboy's fields of study, my "liberal arts" degree only qualifies me to ask, "would you like fries with that, Sir?" Or teach... thank you very much, I'll take driving the truck.

Tom, between work and trying to figure out how I'm going to reload them, I've only set off a few. And, I don't recall at the moment what dram equivalent those DU shells were... BUT OH MY GOSH! Far stouter than my usual fare!

Kurt, I should be in Portland on Tuesday evening, if all goes well, and the weather holds. I don't care for high winds or ice... snow is ok, ice is the ban of any semblence of safety when traveling.

Kim, haven't decided on my route, but... never fear, I won't be coming thru CO. I'll give you time to get thawed out, and the Bar-B warmed up.

OI, June is on my list. However, over the Memorial Day weekend is our Annual CAS club shoot, which is the oldest annual match in TX, and I've volunteered to help run the thing, although I won't be shooting unless someone twists my arm. I'm hoping to set up my primitive camp (16'x20' wall tent, plus 16'x14' porch, a few lawn chairs, a queen-sized bed, generator, satellite TV are hardly roughin' it!) and spend the 3 days soakin' up the cowboy competition, renewing some old acquaintenances and maybe a barley-pop or 2.

That's good, because we're debating over June 14/15 vs June 28/29 (leaning towards the 28/28 ) neither of which is Memorial Day Weekend...

Which is excellent, as my wife doesn't like it when I take off more than 4-5 DAYS every 6-12 WEEKS!  (Sorry to disappoint darlin', but I just found out.... is an oft-used line!)

I just got on the 'puter since we needed a new modem. I spent one of the most enjoyable evenings ever talking with two gentlemen. Starting with being a couple of just plain good guys and going on to being very knowledgeable about firearms. I had the pleasure of being able to listen to and learn from their conversation.

The gun talk came on the heels of a lot of life experience exchanges and getting to know a little about each other.

There was one great problem and shortcoming ... the evening only lasted a couple of hours. Anyone who has the oportunity to get together with either Griff or Mike will have a darn fine experience.

Glad to meet you gentlemen.

Likewise, Gerry. You shortchange yourself. I was quite impressed with you also. I fine gentleman with a very likely thankless job (except for the some we mentioned), but very important in the scheme of things. After my last post, I'll probably be as popular as Junior.

Griff,
Let me know if you head south on I-5 after you stop in Portland. I'm about 70 miles south of Portland, in Albany.

I had a great time and I enjoyed the company. I am serious about giving me a call when you get down this way. I agree with Griff, you are short changing yourself.

Griff,

If you get to Roseburg on I-5, I am about 70 miles west of there. I could make that trip easily, depending on day of the week and time.

Wait! THERE's LAND 70 miles WEST of Roseburg???   I stopped there in Roseburg and shot a cowboy action match with them several months back after I picked up my '51 Navy Colts. There're some awfully good shooters there.

Griff,

I should have said one hour and 20 minutes drive west. I'm not in real deep water, unless the valley floods, am I? We call our valley Winter Lake for a reason.

So, let me know if you're ever get within 100 miles of me, if I have the time off work, I'll meet you somewhere.

Ah, 70 miles as the highway engineer measures, not as the crow flys!

Well, I should have said, but my plans got changed on Friday, someone's planning got a little ahead of them... that load wasn't supposed to picj up for a week! Now I coulda found something to occupy my time, but it might have not resulted in positive cash flow.  So, they sent me over into KY to picj up yesterday morning and now I'm in TX enroute to Nogales, AZ. I'm enjoying a truly glorious Spring morning! Not a cloud in the sky, green grass and a few of those purple/red flowers that seem to just preceed the Bluebonnets.
