O.T. Florida/Utah Out of State CCW Holders?
I am currently planning a vacation trip To Florida, soon. And I currently live in Arkansas, and have an Arkansas CCW permit and have for years.
But several states between here and there do not honor my CCW. Florida does, but Miss, Alabama, and Georga do not. However they do honor Florida's and Utah's, and many out of state holder have a Florida and or Utah CCW. I wish Arkansas would get it together and secure a few more states for us, I don't know what the problem is.
Anyway, does anyone have an out of state CCW for Utah or Florida, and what was required to get it?

I don't have one from FL or UT, just my home state of MO. From what I have read Utah's is the easiest to get of any out-of-state CCW. My brother was going to get an out of state CCW from Utah just because it was easier and cheaper than Missouri's. I would think the info you need could be found on Utah's website, or the NRA website should have a link.
When I renewed my NV CCW I went ahead and got the UT one also, it was a couple of years ago and if I remember correctly it was cheaper than my renewal, simpler, lasted longer and covered many more states. Worth the trouble for sure. Like TedH said check out Utah's website or go were you get your CCW and they should be able to get you the paperwork.

I just looked at a site on my favorites and it shows that all of the southern states honor my Arkansas permit. Type in "Arkansas state ccw permits"and you should be able to find a map that shows it.

After reading this post. I got off my but and ordered the Florida non resident application. Hopefully I can get it sent in and processed before I move this summer. It may not be good here in California but its good most every else.

According to the application for a CCW you need to show valid proof of firearms training. when I got mine I used the cert. from the hunter's Safety course I took with my son.
Jeremy, you might be special in that as active military you should be able to send a copy of your military ID. those that have done their time can also use a DD214.

Many folks seem to be using non-resident licenses in states other than their resident state in order to carry in states that may not recognize their own resident licenses. This may be fine, but a caution is in order.
Just because State A may recognize State B's RESIDENT license does not mean it will recognize State B's NONRESIDENT license. Your State B nonresident license may be good only for carry in State B.
While nonresident licenses may be cheap and easy to get in many cases, they may not be worth the effort unless you know, for sure, that the ones you get will cover you in reciprocal states.

Rusty yes all that is required of active duty is a copy of your ID card or a DD214 for Vets.
Pisgah sound advice. You should always be aware of the firearms laws in the states you visit. I looked at the reciprocal agreements most states that recognize Florida's permits also honor the Non-Resident Florida permits. But it is good practice to review the ones that do and the ones that dont.

I live in the great state of "We don't trust our citizens" Illinois
and just received my Non-resident Florida permit. I actually found a guy at a gun show that give the required training and arranged for the fingerprinting and had the applications. Made it pretty simple. You just have to show some basic training in handgun use. This guy just give the NRA basic handgun course. You have to fill out the app and submit it along with a current photo the fingerprint card and the $117.00 fee. Took about 6wks to get it returned. You can download a application by going to the Florida Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services, Division of Licensing.
My understanding is that you can use your state resident CHP/CCW and a copy of the training certificate to get a Florida non-resident permit (total cost between $100-150 for application). However, for Utah, you must take a Utah certified course (check their web site for certified instructors), which runs $150 (here in VA anyway), plus the application fee. Your state's training will not be applicable to Utah.

Yes and we, the citizens of the state of Fla. thank you as well. We are having a budget shortfall at the moment.
Yes and Fingerprints... don't forget the fingerprint cards.

Jerry B,
Are you sure about that, as I can't find any edvidence that Miss, Alabama, or Georgia honor Arkansas's CCW permits, and I just talked to an instructor today, and he agreed with me, so I am going to get the Utah, and maybe Florida's non-resident premit which will allow me to carry in Alabama, Georgia, and Miss.
PLease post a link, if you have one saying differently.
My dad just got his Florida non-resident permit. Very easy, and cheaper to get than most resident cards. I know the non-res is legal for carry here in NM.

Thanks, Jerry BJerryB wrote:Lastmohecken,I just looked at the site, it is Carry Concealed .net and look for the state map page and there is a trip planner map also. Hope this helps.
That is the best link I have seen on the subject. It does look like some states have been added lately. I guess I really don't need the Utah permit after all, however one does gain an extra state or two with WY being one of them. I may get it anyway, but it does look like Arkansas has finally got it together and filled in the blanks accross the south, which was badly needed.
For anyone interested in a Fla CCW, the back of mine says:
Direct Inquiries to:
Fla. Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services
Division of Licensing,

Tallahassee, Fl 32314-6687

They have a packet made up with all the information in it for residents. It contains the fingerprint cards and all forms. You might want to call them and see if they'll send you what you want.
