Got a couple more.
Got a call Friday to go look at some guns. They belonged to one of my old jr. high teachers now long retired. They came from his dad and brother who are now gone. He doesn't hunt or shoot and just wanted to get rid of them.
I try to never get my hopes up in cases like this. Don't dare dream of deluxe 86's or a 4 3/4 Colt Frontier Six Shooter.
Anyway, there was an old bolt action 12ga and a damascus double that was worn out. However, there was a very early Ruger 10/22 in mint shape and a much carried but little fired pre-war 94 carbine in 32WS. I told the gentleman I'd take these two and asked what he wanted for them. I was shocked when he told me to just take them!
I thanked him profusely but told him I couldn't do that. He knows nothing about guns and I just wouldn't feel right. I gave him a fair price that I thought didn't hurt either of us and took them home.

"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

Thanks Blaine.
I remember when I used to go to the gunshows, I would hang around the Winchester tables and hear guys I knew talking about the "deals" they'd got. They seemed to be more excited about that than the guns. They would tell about going through the obituaries in the paper looking for people they knew had guns. They'd try and get to the widow before anyone else and get (steal) the guns. Then they had the gall to call themselves "collectors".
I don't want anything that bad. I'd like to be able to look at myself in the mirror without being nauseated.
Anyway, I'm 46 and this is the first 10/22 I've ever owned. Go figure.
My wife and I bought one for our youngest son when he was about ten but I've never had one. This one kinda spoke to me.

Nice to see we have some honest people still around. You represent us well.

Thank you very much.
Coming from you guys, it means a lot.
The vast majority of "gun people" are simply the best. Unfortunately, things being what they are today, there are some who I find less so.
I wouldn't want my wife and kids, or a complete stranger, to see me as such.
On a better note, I think the old 94 will be a shooter. The bore is perfect and the action looks good. She is a little dry and stiff from 50yrs of sitting but I will remedy that quickly enough.
I really didnt need another 94 but my son is finally seeing the light and is getting into OLD guns. He has been looking for something like this so it was a win-win.

I figure a better explanation is the old gent forgot.
Truth to tell, I should feel a little guilty for being the student I was back then.
You fellers may not believe this, but I was a bit of a hellion back in the day.

You have made us all proud. We knew that the folks on here were honest and worthy, but you have once again proven what we know to be true.
