HELP! 32/20 -- What do you use for neck sizing?
The little Savage bolt I acquired via jdad last year has become too danged popular with grandkids. So it would simplify my life if I had a carbide neck sizer for this round to avoid messing with case lube. I have a carbide 30 carbine die but that doesn't squeeze the necks quite enough. Anybody have any great ideas? Does the 32 ACP squeeze 'em enough? (from my cartridge dimension drawings it looks like the 32 ACP might not take 'em down any more than the 30 carbine, which is about .002 from giving good neck tension).

I use Hornady 32-20 dies and only neck size the first 3/16" of the neck with no case lube used.

Redding`s bushing dies are dandy if you have an unlimited budget.

How about using the size die, carbide, for the 32 H&R mag?

I've had success with the Lee FCD...

I use the Hornady 1 shot spray with RCBS dies. Dries quick and works well with no mess. I just stand them in the loading block and rotate it 180 to get all sides and a little inside the neck. No worry of primer damage from it either.

32 H&R neck sizer like Thunder said.
Real happy everyone enjoys it. It was a tack driver when I owned it.

I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

I use the RCBS cowboy die backed off enough to just size half the neck.
Really don't need lube for this but I tend to have an oily rag (olive oil) on hand so that my fingers are a just a little oily when I pick the cases up, no clean up required for such a small amount of lube.

32-20s won't go into my 32 Mag die.

Sizing the neck only, with a neck sizing die, not the whole case.Old Savage wrote:32-20s won't go into my 32 Mag die.

I've been doing that but I think my Lee dies aren't polished as well in the neck area as they should be and I'm needing some lube.gundownunder wrote:I use Hornady 32-20 dies and only neck size the first 3/16" of the neck with no case lube used.
Yeah, Redding wants more for one of their little bushings than Lee does for the entire 32ACP carbide size die. And that's on top of a body die of some sort. I may yet go this route, though, because I could shorten a Rem 30 Benchrest a bit to handle the 32/20 and use different bushings to neck size all my 30 cal rifles.Chuck 100 yd wrote:Redding`s bushing dies are dandy if you have an unlimited budget.

Hey! I didn't think that would work because my dimension drawings show the 32 H&R as .001 larger than the 30 Carbine neck. But if that works that would be real nice since there might well be a 32 H&R in my future and it would be good to have the dies ready to go!jdad wrote:32 H&R neck sizer like Thunder said.
Thanks for the ideas, Levergunners!
