Got some target shooting in

Post by hondo1892 »

I was able to get out and shoot this week. Actually I made time to do a little shooting. I built myself a rifle and it took forever to get done. Working on it between other folks jobs and working on the house. After a year I was able to complete it and fired it a few times last winter. The rear sight needed moving, so I drifted it over but never tried it out until Tuesday. Shot it from the bench to make sure it was hitting where it should. After I checked the zero and tried three different patch materials I decided on the pillow ticking with .490 round ball and 80 grs. of Goex ffg. Here's the target I shot sitting and using a stick to help steady the rifle. The distance was only twentyfive yards but four shots went 15/16" and the flyer was do to flinching. No it wasn't the flint lock flinch. It's the Marlin 45/70 flinch. Wish I never had that Marlin now. I got rid of it years ago but I still catch myself flinching now and then. Even with .22 rimfires. Any ways it has a 44" Rice barrel on it and the lock is a Chambers that I modified. I will try some other loads and see what it likes best before deer season gets here.

Very, very nice, I've got to get shooting now that the deer flies have let up. Small game season starts in a month and a half and I haven't had my flinters out all summer. Congrats on a fine rifle.

A rifle that you put together and made it very nice is better than a $5000 store bought gun. Nice work.-----6

Beautiful Long Rifle, everything looks great. I do like your patch knife too.

Beautiful rifle! Very nice job and I really like the sound of your load. Bet it will "crack" when it sends that ball down range. Should be a dead deer in there somewhere. Be sure to post us some pictures of a dead one with the velvet polished off.
