?opinion: ruger 10-22 take-down

anyone have up to date experience with this? I don't know why I am interested, but the arrival of a BX-25 mag in the midway box has sparked interest in something to bond with it.

I have a 10-22, in Alaska, patiently waiting for its new magazine.

hopefully someone will respond with tales of woeful unreliability and inaccuracy and dissuade me from getting another gun.

Go for it! Wonderful rifle...as accurate an any 10/22. Get the one pre-threaded and save $120 to send it off to be done.

Got a threaded one just recently from rjohns94, and it is awesome. Now I just wish I had a small suppressor 'just' for 22 LR. However, my Mystic works from 0.357" diameter on down.

I have one -- fun plinker --i am spoiled by optics, but the little fiber optic iron sights on mine make it pretty easy to plink with at reasonable distances

For me, the Take down feature is probably more of a "gee whiz" feature, but it is pretty neat nonetheless

But for you, it would certainly be a neat firearm to strap to the snowmobile or go behind the seat of the SuperCub as a campground plinker and small game getter

That's kind of the way I feel. I don't "need" a takedown, but it's just plain FUN to mess with them, and for most of us (unless we're professional hunters or competitive shooters or snipers), the whole point of our shooting ANY gun is "fun". . .

Yes "Gee Whiz" Cool design but I own a couple,have owned several standard 10-22 carbines and never had a reason to need to take one down. Get it and enjoy if that is what you want.

have had one since they came out; gets shot by all ages more than any other 22. always taken on trips, love the takedown feature and its case which holds extra mags etc

I have one and it is my favorite version of the 10-22. It is more accurate than my fixed barrel 10-22 and the bag it comes with is really nice and holds spare mags, ammo, even a small handgun.

yes,mine is in the truck now, going out to our cabin for the fourth and a week of plinking, fishing, four wheeling etc.

That is so interesting - I've heard many people make that kind of comment, and although I've got a couple 'custom' 10/22's I glass-bedded and so on, so far I really DO get the impression that the takedown one we have is at least as accurate, if not more accurate, than the other six or eight regular ones I've shot and/or owned over the years.

Why would that be...???

Put a QD set of rings on it, a decent scope like a vortex, and add a suppressor.... good to go, and accurate.

Saturday I put 4 25 round mags on a 4 inch steel target at 125 yards without missing. Leupold 3-9. I found the ammo it likes.

My only complaint with mine is I bought it in the first year - BEFORE - they offered the pre-threaded version! I did pay $130 to have it shortened to 16" and threaded. It is one of my favorites now.

Probably unique to my rifle. I shot 12 different brands, 10 shot groups with a bore snake and three fouling shots on my second round of ammo testing and it stayed at the top from my less formal first test.

Aguila Gold Eagle Match Rifle with the light and heavy rounds removed. About 8% get removed and relegated to plinking.

I've upgraded the extractor and the trigger group.
