So What Do You Biker Guys Think ?
I think it'll make a cool back and forth to work bike.

I don't think it'd get me to work and home on a charge.
Guess I will keep the old Softail.

I won't be interested in any electric vehicle until they get rid of the entire drivetrain and use strictly electromagnetic "drive" where each wheel is in effect its own selfcontained maglev motive system...

Here's a link to the article. I used to run straight pipes but outgrew that. Still like my pipes on my Streetglide. I'm sure there will be a market for this. 0-60 in 4 seconds....not bad. It tops out over 90MPH. I remember when the Evo motors came out and the old timers mocked it. It was a major improvement but I would love to have an old panhead.

At this point...it's an expensive toy for somebody who just can't find anything else to spend money on. It may remain just that, and become a "collectible" for people like Jay Leno to put in their garage.
That said....it's a step towards a practical electric motorcycle that is interesting, but no...I won't be buying one. My current bike is an '85 FXRS I've ridden 270,000 mi. (so far)...I don't think she'd be happy to see ANY other bike parked next to her.

Not enough distance on a charge. Many times, like when I visit my Dr., my daily trip is 200+ miles.
The technology has been around for quite a while (SCR controls work quite well in electric forklifts) but battery technology is the main problem...

My thoughts also, maybe they will have some demos at Sturgis. I also have a 85 FXRS that will never leave.guido4198 wrote:At this point...it's an expensive toy for somebody who just can't find anything else to spend money on. Nice bike to ride to work..(that's always been my excuse to buy a bike too..) , but then I'd have to get a job ..
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

If you can deal with the frequent and lengthy charge-ups, it'll be great:)

Looks like fun. Especially without the obnoxious exhaust.
Bump that range up to a couple hundred miles or give it a quick-charge ability of a few minutes and it'll be a winner.

I just like it that an American motorcycle company is trying to expand its appeal to something than the leather and chrome crowd. I still wish HD had done something with Buell other than run it into the ground.

Re: So What Do You Biker Guys Think ?
I freely admit that I was one that used to make fun of stock Harleys for their lack of get up and go....I have to say that the performance of this '14 Dyna Lowrider I just got is why I got it. They are doing something right on this one. The performance straight out of the box is eye-popping, the 2>1 exhaust is on the righthand side, and away from my leg (no burnt leg/melted raingear).stew71 wrote:Ahh yes...converting fuel into noise rather than performance.mikld wrote:No obnoxious noise? I think perhaps it's only the older guys that love the brand. The younger fellas all seem to want those sport bikes...(I had to get rid of the Super Tenere because it was too high for me to handle, but it was a great scoot, too). Seat 25" off the ground, 650lbs, and a short-legged old fanny burp with bad legs and back can have a rocket ship again. (I haven't grown up yet, and since I'm single, I'm never wrong )

I still think this is the best send-up of a new introduction:
Although this happened back in 2007, I'll bet most never knew the real facts as explained by this factory video:

Blimey, those Brits certainly are a conniving bunch! Using female logic to help build the bike, oh boy what an idea.

Re: So What Do You Biker Guys Think ?
Biggest gripe with my old '81 Maxim is that it only makes 41mpg. (Maybe 45 if you run all day, but 41 is the "norm".)
Means I only get 120 mi out of my Tank+reserve.
Really wish it did better.

That's pretty good for an old carb scoot....You could probably tinker with the carb sync, and jets and improve on that a bit....Old Ironsights wrote:Biggest gripe with my old '81 Maxim is that it only makes 41mpg. (Maybe 45 if you run all day, but 41 is the "norm".)

Probably. Though I think it really needs a better top end gear ratio. It's happiest at 55mph but as soon as it hits 5krpm/60mph is has a horrif harmonic until about 5300rpm/63mph. Even after the harmonic dies it's rapping pretty well to run 65-75. (but it will go waaaay faster than that if I want to push the rpms/suck petrol)

Re: So What Do You Biker Guys Think ?
Wow, being that I'm a "die hard" motorcycle enthusiast and hot rod Harley lover, I have to give Harley some credit for this one though I am not a Harley corporate fan. They managed to "leap frog" the two other electric motor start up company's in their first attempt although they had a ten year head start, and that is no small accomplishment. The Harley electric motor uses a longitudinal layout with a 90 degree bend at the beginning of the power-train so they can run a belt drive system. Its also what gives the Harley engine its distinctive electric sound.
It also looks great and is very un-Harley. I'm not ready for an electric bike yet, but I have to admit, Harley has every right to be very proud of their first attempt here.

Re: So What Do You Biker Guys Think ?
I hate sport bikes! I love cruisers, going to check out a 2013 harley sportster leftover with forward controls and mini apes. On sale for 10,300 bucks, Of course it is banana yellow in color with white walls on spokes. A different setup then what i like. Red is my color with solid wheels and blackwalls. Not sure if they come with rear cylinder fuel shutoff at idle when they get too hot like the big boy bikes. Also thinking of the victory's just missed the 2000 buck rebate by one day, They are more bang for the buck as far as the motor goes, They all are 110 cubic inch.
