32 Special heavy cast bullets
Have you heard of anyone using a heavy cast bullet, 190-200 gr. ?
Would it be difficult to stabilize it out of a 24" barrel?
This would of course be for a large animal. I don't think Buffalo Bore
makes any hot 32 special ammo.

Re: 32 Special heavy cast bullets
I have a old Ideal mold (bought from a man on LG) it puts out a bullet bout 190 gr.
the last time I shot with a different rear sight on the gun it surprised me with a group of less
than 3 in. at a 100yd. my gun is a 1911 SRC 32 WS with a typical old bore not bad but not good
I use RL7 & H 4198 at around 1900 fps. & the bullet wears a gas check

Re: 32 Special heavy cast bullets
The length of the barrel does not stabilize the bullet.
In a nutshell, the rate of the twist in the rifling along with the bullet weight and length that stabilizes the bullet.

I didn't see this post before responding to your other one.
While I've not used bullets of that weight in 32WS, I don't think you will have a problem. I use cast in the 165 range, it's basically the old 32-40 bullet.
I don't have a number but I think the 32-40 and 32WS share the same twist. If so, the old 32-40 was a popular schutzen cartridge and was loaded with bullets in your weight range with great accuracy.
I've always got good accuracy from my 32 specials. It was a cartridge I was lukewarm about at best but have grown to really like.
I may be full of it. If so, someone will be along to correct me.

Hawk bullets does or will make a heavy 32 special bullet.
Re: 32 Special heavy cast bullets
A couple years back I "had" an Ideal 32 cal Perfection mold that was adjustable . It could make up to a 220-230 grain bullet if the caster desired . This thing "I think" was made for schuetzen shooters and the old fellow I got it from kinda sorta did the schuetzen thing for awhile .
I cast up to I think 190 grainers and tried them in a 8.15x46R schuetzen I have but they didn't shoot so great . Sorry to say I never tried them in any of the 32 Specials or 32-40 that I had at the time .

Re: 32 Special heavy cast bullets
Montana Bullet Co.used to offer a 200 grain plain base and a 190 grain GC at .323.Both shot well in my Marlin 336 32 Special.
Re: 32 Special heavy cast bullets
In my always biased opinion "I think" your best bet would be to find a nice old Lyman 321297 mold . I had one of those for awhile and it shot wonderfully in a couple 32 Special Marlin's I had for awhile . And to the best of my knowledge the bullets I cast from that mold dropped at 178-182 grains .

A fellow over on the Marlin group posted a good discussion on heavy bullets in the 32 Special.

Re: 32 Special heavy cast bullets
I had a custom 190 grain made for me by NEI and it was great. It even stabilized at match velocity (1050) out of an 1894 with 1-16 twist. Funny thing, I just sold that mould as I dont shoot the 32 much anymore.-----------6

Re: 32 Special heavy cast bullets
Thanks for plenty of info. I special ordered some 200 grain from Hawk this morning, will be about 6 weeks before they run them. The price was good and they are familiar with people who have used them successfully in a 32 special. Now to come up with a powder and load for them when I get them. It's so great to have so many of you give helpful information. I hope
along the way I can be a help to people as well.

Re: 32 Special heavy cast bullets
I also have an NEI mold that casts at just a smidge over 190 gr. My Win. 94 does not fully stabilize that bullet unless I am running at or near maximum loads. It shoots good groups but the bullets ,as can be seen by the holes, are not fully stable. This target is at 50 yd.
I am sure that by the time they reached 100 yd., that accuracy would have been long gone.
I bought an RCBS 170 gr mold and the accuracy is the same but the holes are round.
