The Winchester Model 94

Post by Bigahh »

I was browsing the internet this morning, and came across a Quote from one of Chuck Hawks articles, thought I would share it with all of you. He is as most of us are..excited about the return of the model 94, and what configurations may be in store for us. Anyway here is the quote....
The millions of shooters who have known this simple truth: the Model 94 remains the best handling big game rifle on the market.

... and any other model I missed.
You missed the NRA/Whelen stocked 53, 65, and 71's. And I know you love those 71's. Everybody forgets the poor old pistol grips though. I like to think of these as the marketing rifles. Let's face it, they were 92's and 86's in all but the smallest of details. I think the marketing group was just looking for new numbers to use / models to show that they were making progress in the rifle market. I suppose they got new model numbers because they came by default with round barrels and less than full mags?

Any word on where the new 94 is going to be produced? I was surprised that FN brought the 70 to South Carolina. Good for them though.

I don't think those fit the criteria... "The millions of shooters who have known..." None of the ones you mentioned have been produced in sufficient numbers.

I wonder what the 92's are up to if you count the offspring and the clones?

Yep - they're all great but, much as I love my Winchester 94 30-30, I have to confess my preference for the Winchester 95 in 30-06.

Teddy Roosevelt claimed it to be his favorite and called it his "Good Medicine Gun for Lions" (he took four in Winchester 405 caliber and one in 30-40 Krag for his hunting trips to Africa.

I'll admit it is a little out of mainstream in being "Hi Grade" (my first and only in some 75 years of levergunning) but that doesn't stop it from being a very fine shooter and I remind myself in a practical way of this at least monthly.

I would like to know that number also, may be interesting, but probably not close to the 94.

I'm betting it's return will be just a plain vanilla 94, 30-30. Nuthin wrong with that though.
