She actually wants a Savage model 14 in 30-06. I'm going to have her fire my dad's .270 first to see if she's willing to learn to deal with stout recoil.
Of course, reduced loads are also an option.

I'm willing to pitch in, but she made it clear she wants to buy it on her own with her own $$ and minimal interference from me.Grizz wrote:Jason... DUDE!
She's saving money for a gun ....
And you didn't go out and buy her one?
Sounds like a possible communication problem here.
It makes sense in a lot of ways.

She cant go wrong with the Savage but I think it's smart thinking to let her shoot the .270 first. If she doesnt like the punch then you can convince her to get a lever in 30-30

Jason,
That's great! If she hasn't shot a centerfire much, you might (strongly) consider some reduced loads. Can you or someone load some? I've got a great .270 recipe with jacketed and there are pages of reduced loads for '06. Folks I've known for years kid me about shooting reduced cast loads until they try them. No need for all the noise, expense and recoil to puch holes in paper or cans. Easier to get acquainted with a new rifle too.

Keep your sword and your plow share, know how and when to use them.
