Reminded today of why I don't like crescent buttplates
Took my somewhat new to me Browning B-92 in 44 Magnum to the range this afternoon. I had a couple boxes of UMC 44 Magnum 240 gr JSPs left from a large purchase some years ago and figured to empty that brass so I could do up some reloads.
I got through about 35 rounds and called it quits, even through a T-shirt, sweatshirt, and lined winter jacket. I'm not what you call recoil-sensitive by any means, and will fire 50 rds of 8mm through a K98k at one session wearing a T-shirt (and jeans or shorts, too) without so much as a single wince, but sheesh, that curvy steel thing on the B-92's operator end HURTS!
Ten 44 Special Cowboy loads fired afterward felt like .22s going off.
I like curvy butts on women, where they belong. I'll take straight shotgun butts on my rifles, please.

I am wondering if you had the butt agin your shoulder? Crescent butts are supposed to be held agin the upper arm between the deltoid and the bicep (someone who knows their anatomy can post the correct muscle names). I shoot 6 different old Winchesters with crescent butts up to the 45-70, and held properly, one can shoot them all day with no discomfort. Here are some photos taken last summer to demonstrate.

Sorry about that, Chief . . . Can this be relocated to the Forum from the Classifieds?

Good point, Kirk, but yes, I was "chicken winging" it.
Problem is an old shoulder joint injury. I should just get in the habit of shooting the crescent buttplated rifles lefty. I'm completely ambidextrous, and frequently shoot handguns and rifles with either hand.

If you got a shoulder injury, you probably should not be using it at all for shooting. I would encourage you to start shooting left, as you mentioned. I'm sure you could also train yourself to shoot left-eyed as well.Noah Zark wrote:Good point, Kirk, but yes, I was "chicken winging" it.
