Crazy shootings and gun laws
Shootings by deranged people are getting totally out of hand.
Just read where 3 people were killed in a mall in Maryland. Couple of days ago a person was shot at Purdue University here in Indiana and about this time, or a day or two earlier, 2 more people were killed at two other universities.
Where are we headed? Would seem a good bet that if this craziness continues, or even gets worse, gun laws will increase by a bunch. I don't think anyone has a good solution to all of this craziness.

Re: Crazy shootings and gun laws
Crazy shootings are going to happen. There are over 300,000,000 people in this country. That's a hell of a lot of folks. Every single crazy idiot gets national attention no matter what so you will always be hearing about such things, but the frequency of them is actually miniscule and falling by most accounts. We don't want to talk about that however.
the price of "freedom" is that some folks will abuse that privilege and others will suffer. That doesn't excuses the idiots and the crazies, but they are a cost we all have to bear, whether we like it or not.

Re: Crazy shootings and gun laws
I just pointed out in another thread (and I researched it with several sources) that mass shootings are in decline. It's just the hype is fanning the flames. This gives the anti-gun Socialists a foot in the door every dam time

Never forget that all of those places are essentially (if not actually/"legally") "victim disarmament zones" where an active shooter gets 100% of PD Response Time (counted in minutes) rather than being perforated within seconds...getitdone1 wrote:Shootings by deranged people are getting totally out of hand.

Re: Crazy shootings and gun laws
This just shows how effective Obama's gun control program was. Even though it didn't get passed, it still resulted in a decline in shootings. Vote Democratic in 2014 and 2016, and shootings will decline even more. Or perhaps disappear altogether; people can't shoot people when they're holding hands. Peace, love, and the Democratic Party.BlaineG wrote:I just pointed out in another thread (and I researched it with several sources) that mass shootings are in decline.

Re: Crazy shootings and gun laws
Had a terrible case here in New Zealand where someone murdered his two children with a shotgun and then took his own life. Insane and marriage break down. We have very strict gun laws. The police have the right to take your rifles off you if they consider it is in the public's interests to do so. Point is, this guy was not a licensed gun owner. Got his shotgun from some other source. Look most of those who use firearms for the wrong reasons are not licensed. Licensing never stops the crims and the insane. The problem is trying to identify the imbalance in a person's mind and protecting the community from that person.

This is one reason I carry. Plus if the crazies that flip out don't have guns there would be mass stabbings, or axe wielding mall assaults (remember an airplane was hijacked by terrorists using box cutters).

If someone is intent on harming others, then the laws and lack of access to firearms will not stop them. Remember Boston where pressure cookers were used?

Re: Crazy shootings and gun laws
Gun control laws are about as effective as drug and booze control laws are/were. What all of them do is guarantee that the suppliers will be violent criminal gangs, with little in the way of effective controls. Innocent citizens suffer more from the draconian laws than the criminals do, especially when the laws are used as an excuse to act like those laws and their enforcement are more important than the people they are supposed to be helping or protecting.
As has already been pointed out, the media tells us they are increasing, but whats increased is the sensationalistic reporting on a national level of something that should be a local story, and not even mention the name of the perpetrator, unless only in passing, or as a footnote. Who should be mentioned is the victims. There's plenty of reason to believe sensationalistic reporting tends to encourage such behavior. That isn't likely to happen, as the media seems to be on the side of those that want gun control not crime control.

I live in Maryland and that shooting took place about ten minutes from my house. For those of you that don't know, we just had a huge gun ban that was passed on Oct. 1st 2013 (SB281). Not surprisingly, because MD is an incredibly liberal state. The law that was passed out lawed a number of "Assault Rifles " as well as imposed a new Handgun Qualification License to the tune of $100-$500, depending on you circumstances. Handgun mags are limited to 10 rounds.
Looks like the new law's working great!

Again, I don't think theres anything unusual about whats going on, its just that we're being force fed sensationalistic news stories about them to promote a political agenda.getitdone1 wrote:Shootings by deranged people are getting totally out of hand.

Re: Crazy shootings and gun laws
Here we had a case of a guy who stabbed to death a person he shared a house with. Reason, he was schizophrenic and on medication. Public health decided to load him up with a supply of happy pills and send him back into the community. He stopped taking the pills because he started to feel good and that is when the voices came back. "Care in the community" really means no care. So I think the best solution seems to be take away all the guns and knives and anything else so we can dump people with mental health issues on the streets and everyone will feel safe. Obviously the issue is the quality of mental health care a society offers. Question, were the incidences of this kind of crime lower, the same?, when we had residential institutions which cared for such people away from the community? And yes, the poor b@gger murdered in his bed was never told his house mate had psychotic issues linked to his schizophrenia.
