25-35 winchester

I have a early Savage 1899 chambered in 25-35. The barrel is worn and I would like to have it relined. Is this possible and what outfit would be right for this job? I really don't want to re-barrel this firearm. Thanks for any help.

I do recall some may not do anything lower than 35 cal. such as Taylor's Machine. I'm in the same boat, I have a 1899C half round/oct. in 25-35 with a junk barrel.

Thanks for the info. My gun will group but key holes bullets. There are bad spots in the bore and a new barrel or liner would work. I do not want to bore to a larger caliber.

I am thinking you may not have enough barrel diameter to accommodate a liner.

I once asked a well known installer if a liner would be suitable for full pressure factory jacketed loads in 25-35. Rifle was a thin barrel mod 55 win, i did not get a warm fuzzy feeling from the answer. The original barrels where nickel steel or in your case high pressure steel. I know the tj liners are 4130 steel or something close but that dont mean anything unless a heat treat is given and tensile strength. Im not saying it would not be okay but this is just my thoughts.

It makes me wonder if shorter bullets or higher velocities would make enough difference to be worth checking out.

I used to use a guy named Mark Beinke in Klamath Falls, OR for relines. I know he would reline a .30-30 back to .30-30, so he'd do a .25-35 back to .25-35. His company, if it is still in business, was called Beinke and Beinke (He pronounced his name the German way: BEN-kah).

Mark did three Winchesters for me, and one of them, an 1885 "Lowall" single shot was a #1 barrel (smallest diameter they made) in .38-40 WCF. You couldn't tell it had been relined except for the mint bore, and I've shot the hell out of it since with no issues. The others were an 1885 .25-20 and a Model 61. No problems with either.

If there isn't enough barrel to reline in 25-35 you could reline and chamber in 219 Zipper.
Why would you not rebarrel in 25-35 if you like that caliber? If it's for collectable reasons then the reline would destroy its value also.

I can shoot 86gr. bullets with decent groups but 100/117gr. won't shoot good. The crown looks o.k.
