Hey Guys,
I've been following a thread on these revolvers, and have a question. Cabelas has a brass frame 1851 for about $140 .... are these any kind of good qualilty, or are they so-so?? There are a couple of young guys in my neighborhood who are anxious to buy one.

You didn't mention the caliber but if it's the 44 cal 51 or even the 44 cal 1860 with brass frames you can expect the opentop style frame to stretch with anything but the mildest of charges. The 36 cal is better but will eventualy stretch if you use full loads. the better option in a brass frame CB would be the Remington 1858 pattern guns. These are "O" frame guns. The top strap strenthend them tremendously.
This ones $180 from Cabela's

I like remmies.

If someone GAVE me an '51 with a brass frame, I'd exchange it for a steel one. Not to 'dis anyone's gift, but... Nate's right; useability is greatly diminished.
