Filled a my tag and the freezer
Well today was opening day for Kansas Firearm Season. I passed on 4 does this morning but found a nice cull buck this evening; a big bodied but thin tined 8 point with the left antler mangled and short tines on the right.
The gun used was a Mossberg Whitetail Lightning in .308 that I received as a Christmas Gift last year. This was the first time I took it to the field and was glad to see it draw it's first blood today. Reviews on this gun are generally less than desirable. However, the gun performed flawlessly even after I dropped it from the deer stand after the ratchet strap holding the stand to the tree broke on me. The shot was a honest 150 yards and the 150 grain Remington Core Lokt entered the point of the right shoulder and exited the off side at mid rib. The buck was hit hard and the bullet flipped him backwards and rolled him, he was DRT and didn't move again.
I had planned to trade this rifle off soon, but now I am thinking, anything that can take the beating I put on it today and still shoot to point of aim is a rifle that I might ought to hold on to!

A good rifle puts good meat in the freezer, can't beat that.

I always like it when a Christmas gift goes bang and is successful in the process... :)

I had my camera phone but the batteries were dead. It wasn't much of a buck anyways. But like you, I always do appreciate PICS!
