Will a stock off of a 336 made in 1971 fit on a 336 made in 1966 (both pistol grip rifles)? What years has Marlin changed the fit to rifle of their stocks? Or where can I find this information?

Marlin has always, and still does AFAIK, fitted each stock to it's own action & kept track of them - so they could be put back together after their respective finishing process'.
Most stocks will fit most other guns fairly well, but a given stock may need more fitting than others.

That may be true but, when looking for a walnut stock, some time back, I called Marlin and asked about a stock I had opportunaty to buy, and was told it wouldn't fit?
