Sights for 1886 Question
I have a Browning 1886 and just got a Lyman tang sight for it. I hesitate to put it on for fear of getting an incompotant gunsmith. Right now it has a ladder rear sight that works ok. What do you all recomend for an 1886 and why? Should I just keep the ladder and therefore not have to worry about changing grip or is the tang sight better?
Steve, There is one hole to drill for a tang sight. Its almost impossible to screw up. With the sight on the tang, insert the stock bolt through the base of the sight and screw it down. Center punch the upper hole and D&T.
The tang sight is better than the barrel sight. Quicker to use and more definitive.
If you look at my son's post (Sixgun jr.) (Hello all) you will see pictures that I posted of him holding his Browning SRC that I D&T for him. I installed a Lyman sight but I would recommend the Marbles as its a stronger and better built sight, plus it has windage adjustment.--------Sixgun
