The finest winchester 71 I ever held and shot....pics

Post by RIHMFIRE »

This weekend Duff-L-Bagg, Rimfire McNutjob and I went to
the range ....And let me tell you....Mcnutjob
has some might fine taste in firearms...He just happen to bring
the finest, Doug Turnball, Model 71 348 mag I have ever seen....
Cased colored, engraved, detailed checkering, and fine wood grain...
He also brought a Browing, very high grade 71 .....
I hope McNutjob see this and will post a better pic of it
I think we had a total of 11 lever action rifles laying around
Heres some pics of us shooting the 71s
What a shooter....Recoil was not as bad as Duff 356....

and a 92 38-40, 94 44, two 73s in 45lc & 44-40, and a 94 357

Anyone who walked by, stopped to and stare at the 71s
Duff-L-Bagg brought a 356 and a 375 and was shooting 1" groups
at 50 yards.....this boy can shoot....I forgot to take pics....
Sunday we went to the local skeet and trap club....
and let this be a warning to you all....
Do not shoot a perfect score with Duff-L-Bagg around....
Sucker stole my ball cap and ventilated it.....

At least I dont have to take my hat off to scratch my head

Hope everyone had a Happy Easter

You guys have seen this one before. I don't have any pictures of the whole gun in one photo ... sorry.

Image

It might look like a museum gun but I assure you it shoots just like the normal ones once the barrel is screwed on. The 250gr Grizzly Cartridge 348 didn't feel all that bad ... until the next morning. We ran through a bit of factory Silver Tip as well.

It was lever city at the range Saturday though. We had the first few stalls and RIHMFIRE and Duff-L-Bagg took up all of the slots in the rack with their lever guns. They didn't leave any room for all of those young guys and their EBR's. Duff's 356 wasn't short on recoil either. RIHM's '92 in 38-40 shot like a dream. Great stuff. I snapped that picture of RIHMFIRE a bit too late so it looks more like artillery practice ... sorry about that.

Sounds like the shotgunning was a good time. Looks like your cap was flushing at 20 yards and had to be properly put down.

One of the nicest I have ever seen. I like the case and engraved together.

MacNutJob,

Very nice custom model 71. In fact, SUPER ! Straight grip on a 71? If so what did just that part of the work cost you?

Maybe you, but someone had a picture on here of a model 71 converted to a straight grip buttstock. I really want that done to my model 71 Browning. It'll make it flat-out lever better.

Edit: And you don't find this kind of "lingo" in an English class.

It's still a PG on the 71. Our hands just cover it well in the pictures. It's a copy of the 71 short tang / long comb stock but has the style E checkering and a skeleton grip cap and skeleton butt plate added.

I will have to find my original spreadsheet on the work estimate breakdown. I can't recall off the top of my head for the stock.

Yes a good time was had by all. I really did enjoy being able to shoot Rimfire McNutjob's 71's. Both were very nice, and yes the 71 bug has bitten me. I am going to have to start saving my nickels and dimes; I got to have one of those.
I think that I have found my deer hunting load for my .356win. I was shooting one hole with it till I started trying to show off. Then I started to walk them around the neat little hole that I had going. That’ll teach me…...naw well it was a thought.

Sunday found Rihmfire and myself on the skeet field, where he promptly shot a 25 straight. Well you know that I could not let that stand without commemorating the event by ventilating Rihmfire’s hat.
So I let his hat have it at 25 feet with 7/8 oz of #8’s from my little 28ga. HEY at least I let him take it off first. :?
