I thought I would share a few pics of my old 1894. Caliber is 38-55. Serial number 22642, which makes this a pretty early rifle. Letters as having had a set trigger, but sadly, that is no longer present. Overall finish is not great, but bore is good and she shoots great! Any idea as to what she might be worth?

Nice looking old Winchester
I had one in similar shape made in 1900 with a round barrel, had a very bad bore & it didn't shoot
a 8 in group at 50 yd, sold it for a grand But wont say what I paid for it, But I will say I made out
good on the sale, Condition is every thing & yours with a good bore is a Big plus
I bought mine knowing it had a bad bore & it didn't work out
I also sold it telling the guy bout the bore, Im sure he was gonna sell it any way as he bought
the gun at a show we both had tables at
Its has an octagon barrel with a good bore, sounds like its worth another lifetime of shooting; targets and game.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!
The condition is far below what most serious collectors are looking for. The 38-55 caliber is definitely sought after. The Lyman front sight is a small plus also. The 1897 DOM makes it a bonafide antique. The gun looks all original but I do think that the wood was lightly sanded a long time ago. It is just a tad low to some of the metal surfaces. If the bore is as good as you elude to then you might get near the $2500 mark.

There was one in very similar condition, at a local shop, here in the Portland (OR) area. Antique serial number, same caliber, very good bore, but with the addition of a tang sight. It was priced, at $1400, and sat for over 4 months. You may want to see "completed" auctions that have actually "sold", on gunbroker, to get a better idea.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

I like it - a lot, Grizz ! IMHO, it's priceless (+352 )..........
I make it's DOM as late Spring, 1897 - What did the letter say ?

Looks like a nice "used but not abused rifle". While not in the high dollar collectors category, its still collectable. Its a pre-1899 which adds another 25-30%. I'd say an easy 17 up to the low 2's.---------------6
Very nice rifle GA, a full length oct. Winchester is a thing of beauty.
An 1894 is next on my list, though on my budget it will be a shooter all the way. Tempting to find one with no blue left and have it nitrided, for durability and to horrify all you guys

Jdad, is that one still there ?

Thanks for the comments, guys. I most likely will hang onto this old lady. Shoots too well not to! In any case, there is just something "comfortable" about an old rifle like this one.
Pete44ru, the letter indicated a rifle, caliber 38-55, octagon barrel with a set trigger. Received at the warehouse on May 29, 1897 and shipped on June 2, 1897, order number 8649. Wish it still had that set trigger!

Thanks for the DOM confirmation - BTW, if you speak with a Winchester collector about it, your Rifle Model has an early Second Model receiver, indicated by what looks like a pin above the loading port (which is actually the cartridge guide attachment screw's tip, installed from the inside on that model receiver).
If it were mine, I think I'd hunt up a set trigger for it from a parts purveyor, so it'd "letter" perfectly.

Thanks, Pete44ru. I appreciate the additional information on the model. I have actually looked for a set trigger for it. Found a couple, but they wanted the price of a sack full of Winchester for them! Know of a possible source for one?
