BLR Trigger at Gunsmiths Inc. - UPDATE in OP

Post by Tycer »

Well, if you'll please go to the website http://www.gunsmithsinc.com/services/trigger-work and see the BLR price is $75 I could use your back-up. I got my gun back today and the charge was $125. According to the price list included in the box, his prices went up June 2013. No mention of this was made during our discussions prior to my sending the gun to Mr. Ward. I am going to ask him to honor his internet price unless you guys suggest otherwise.

UPDATE:
Mr. Ward called this morning and refunded my $50 in a very polite manner. He sure seems like a nice guy, real stand up fella.

I'll say again, the turnaround was very fast and the trigger went from horrible to 3# crisp. Not glass-rod crisp, but by far the best BLR trigger I've ever pulled. I'm really looking forward to working with this gun. It has languished in the safe due to the horrible trigger for three years. I know it is bass ackwards as I could have just paid for the trigger job, but I even bought a .358 Win bolt gun so I could have something to shoot .358 Win from.

I had no idea the trigger could get as good as it is, I had heard that BLR triggers are poor no matter what you do to them. Wrong.

Honor the deal? I do not understand sir what it is you are saying. He should honor the website price?

I've had several BLR and this one had the worst trigger. Mr. Ward said it was too heavy to measure. It's a crisp 3# now. Fast turnaround too.

Tycer

As a business owner he should honor his web site published prices, especially since he never mentioned that his prices had increased back in June.

He should know that the internet forums can be kind as well as VERY cruel no matter what your business.

Here's the email. Will update upon Mr. Ward's response.

Hi Tim,

I got the gun back tonight. Nice job on the trigger sir, thank you. I see what you mean about the sight. I did not realize how curved the Browning receiver is.

Regarding my last email; your invoice and new price sheet answered my question.

It does however raise the issue that your website clearly states the price is $75 and nowhere in our correspondence did you alert me that the price had changed to $125. Please refund the $50 difference.

Perhaps you can bill your website maintenance company. You might want to remind them to change the .pdf also and also add the "prices may change without notice" missing from the current web page and .pdf.

Kind regards from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains

Exactly. Whatever he advertised he should give you.

AND really should do so simply because you pointed out the problem, without your having to ask for the refund.

I've done business with people where if I just said "Hey, by the way, some of your other customers might notice your current charge is significantly higher than your advertised price, and I thought I'd let you know so you don't get a bunch of angry customers..." that they'd say "Thanks for letting me know; I'll be refunding the difference in return for giving me the feedback." THOSE are the people who one keeps doing business with and sends friends to, NOT just over the $50, but due to their demonstrating integrity.

If you have to ask for the refund, that's nice if you get it, but having to ask doesn't earn the business many points as far as I'm concerned.

I understand your point Doc, however in this case, my first and second emails were just hours apart and he'll probably read them at the same time. I'm willing to assume that he would have responded exactly as you describe in your post had I posed your polite statement to him. He has usually taken 48 hours to respond to my emails - it seems like many of the best tool-users are not glued to their computers like me.
