The more I shoot it the more I love my Chapparal. This is not always the case with me, sometimes the more I shoot a gun the more sour I turn on it.
Bought a Chrony for myself for Christmas and tried it out with the 45-75 today in 9" of new snow ( ) this afternoon. 335 grain Lyman solid in front of 57 grains volume equivalent (not weight) of 777, with a .030 LDPE wad gives 1460 fps at 15' from muzzle. Air temp was almost 40. I expected maybe 1350 fps or so, this baby has some oomph to it! So far I targeted 16 groups with this load at 100 yards (3 shots, bench) using a tang sight, and it averages exactly 2.5". It is interesting that I recently tried some homemade lube and the last 4 groups averaged 2.2". Need I say I am MORE than happy with this, especially since the whole project started out bad. Some of you may recall my pleas on this post last spring when I started out with 10" or bigger groups! I sure was helped by many of you on this forum. THANKS TO ALL.
Now have to decide how to sight her in. Am thinking maybe 3" high at 100 so I would not have to worry about where to hold out to 175 or so.
Also, my back order for Jamison cases is STILL back ordered since April of last year!!! I am using formed 348 win. brass but really want correct headstamp brass.
