My daughter Tracy just returned from two weeks in South Africa.
She brought this knife back for me. As you will see it has the edge on the opposite side you would expect. Designed for cutting biltong. It has a giraffe bone handle and is very nicely made. Groot Gert Knives is the custom maker. Very unusual.
Might not be too evident in this photo but the cutting edge is on the side opposite the finger grooves.
In the High Desert of Southern Calif. ..."on the cutting edge of going back in time"...
Very nice knife, now all you need is some biltong.
WOW in that first picture your daughter looks like she was cloned from your wife. No doubt where she gets her good looks from.

Has anyone ever told you you remind them of the 70 "Buck Rogers" Gill Gerard?

When I was in Africa, the guide, Chris Troskie always had some around. It is better than any of the beef jerky that you can buy packaged here in the States. Yes, it is too bad that you can't import it. The USDA thinks that it would be a problem. There is a way of using one form of radiation to kill bacteria in packaged food that I think would work, but the USDA won't budge.
Your wife and daughter are quite pretty. I like the knife.

I think it would make an excellent Salami knife, just wear the salami around your neck and cut slices off as needed.

Biltong is easy to make. All you need is red meat, apple cider vinegar, salt, a place that has air flow, and time. Cut the meat into 1x1/2 inch strips and start layering in a nonreactive pan. As you lay the first layer of meat in the pan sprinkle with salt, spray a little vinegar, and flavor with black pepper and coliander, keep doing this for all the meat. Let the meat sit in the frig over night. The next day hang the meat in the house if you have AC over something to catch any drips. I put the meat into my Excalibur dehydrate on the lowest temp setting for 3 days.
There are many videos on YouTube on making biltong. You don't need to make a biltong box.

OK, I am a sucker for knifes as much as firearms. That one is cool especially as a gift. But I am struggling to figure how it functions, short of trying to rip some ones belly open with a yank upwards to let there innerds fall out on the floor. How is this used, I don't get it?
Like slicing carrots into the stew with a pairing knife aginst your thumb? I guess I can see that. They make a special knife for the purpose of cutting meat sticks?
I guess I get it now, but its odd.
Yup, I use my curved blade paring knife the same way when cutting up carrots or peeling 'taters.

Here is Tracy years ago in HI. She is a stone's throw from Ji's property back then I believe if I have the places we visited right still.
Yup, about 9 miles south of me on the Haleakala Highway real close to my old deer hunting grounds. Sure miss my old homestead.
Tracy sure looks familiar.

As a sailor (sailboat owner, not Navy) I carries a folding knife with a marlin spike, a shackle key, and a blade shaped similar to the biltong knife with the cutting edge along the flat side. It was used for cutting line (rope to you landlubbers) with a mallet (lay the blade on the line and whack it). Chops multi-braid and standard lay line pretty good.
Just FWIW....
