Neat little .22 pistol followed me home yesterday.

Post by 2ndovc »

Stopped in at my favorite little gun shop yesterday and found this little bugger in the case just screaming at me to take it home. It's a Star Model F.

Image

It's darned near new condition with two original magazines and a generic plastic case all for $235.
It functioned perfectly in my woodchuck "test hole" in my back yard. Sounds like some one whacking on a tree branch.

Can't wait to get out and really shoot it. :D

They also had a Model 94 Winchester in the rack for $299.00. Post '64, pre rebounding hammer. Decent shape but didn't get me excited. I have enough .30-30's. For now. :D

That would have gone home with me too! Star has made some generally under appreciated arms over the years, or so it would seem from their trading prices, and I'm rarely without one of some sort or the other.

Great find! Enjoy the heck out've it.

I've got a thing for .22s in general. Can't seem to get enough. I've had several Star autos but this it the
first rimfire.

Terry, you just made my day! About how old are these little pistols? I just started researching them. Looks like the second magazine was a real bonus.

My Phoenix real hot weather carry piece is a Star .380, I put aftermarket sights on it so I can see them.

Did some quick reading on the Star website. Looks to be the Third Model made between '58 and '63.

Go to show you that great weapon can still be got at a price that does not kill the bank. All kinds of weapons find there way home with me when I stop at my weapons shop. Drives the wife crazy but what deals is what I tell her. Woman like shoes and never have enough, so its weapons and old clocks for me. thanks for pictures.

rjohns,
I do that with a Astra Constable .22.
Have an extra slide for it. Going to put adjustable sights on the extra slide one day.
Figure at least it will get me out of Dodge one day.

You are wise my friend. Old friend taught me that. I worked for him in a gun shop. He could have any gun he wanted and chose a Walther PP to carry in his backpack. He carried a bobbed model 60 as his carry gun and his hunting rifle was a model 71, his battle rifle an M1A. Wise man!

.

It's a good basic design - so good that the design was used for higher grade target pistols 3-4 times as expensive.

Star pistols don't fetch high prices here in Oz either, which led me to believe they might have been cheap Chinese junk.

I did a bit of Googling and discovered they are in fact a Spanish knockoff of the 1911 and High Power pistols and are reputed to be very good quality.
The only drawback I found was that the manufacturers closed their doors in the mid 90s and the spare parts inventory is drying up rapidly.

If I'd known years ago what they were, instead of making an assumption based on price, I would have bought one.
