Taylor vs. Cimarron, which one and why?

Post by Peter M. Eick »

I finally have the cash to pick up the 1860 steel frame Henry I have thought about for years. I decided to go with 45 colt just because brass is more plentiful and bullets more common and easier to obtain for a reloader like me that is not going to shoot black powder.

So I am faced with getting one from Taylor's or getting one from Cimarron at about $150 odd more. My local dealer thinks the Cimarron is probably better but as he said, it is "luck of the draw".

So order from Taylor's or Cimarron? Which one and why?

(Or should I save the 1860 iron frame and get a 92 takedown instead? Ah decisions.....)

I bought 2 Taylor 1876's both in 45-60 and am happy with both. I have never owned a Cimaron but I hear great things from people who do. The only thing I have to gripe about the Taylors' is all of the brass filings inside of the reciever that I had to clean out before I shot them.

Find which one is built by Uberti. Buy Uberti, not ArmiSport. Uberti worked out the bugs and interior finish about 30 years ago. ArmiSport has nice exterior finish, rough interior and odd problems.

Terry, as usual, is correct in all his reasoning. IIRC, ALL "Iron Frame Henrys" are built by Uberti.

So, if I need warranty work, just bring it to you seeing as your not that far down the road.

I will check into EMF on Monday so I can add there price to the mix. Right now they are neck and neck with Cimarron for the MSRP.

Thanks for the advice all.
