PRICE CHECK - Winchester Model 92 .357 w/tang sight
Ok Gents, found a '92 Winchester today chambered for .357 with a Lyman tang sight. Wood is actually superb and the iron is 98%, cresent butt, and very slick action. I'm not a .357 affecionado, but the guy wants $650 for it, what do you think?

Is it a converted original or one of the current Miruko made Wins?Old Time Hunter wrote:Ok Gents, found a '92 Winchester today chambered for .357 with a Lyman tang sight. Heck Nate don't know, I fondled it for five minutes and never checked the stampings on the barrel. All I was thinking was I wish it was a .44-40, if it was it would be right next to me right now. Action was slicker than snoot on a door knob though! Didn't see a safety of any sorts, 'course it had a tang sight behind the hammer. I'll be in the area tomorrow morning and check again. He also had a brand new '86 Winchester DeLuxe TD that he is asking $1650 for. That one I know is a Miruko, but has nice tiger stripe wood, pistol grip...really pretty!

The tang site I sell will completely cover the tang safety so the next thing to look for would be the rebound hammer. It may have been modified but I bet it still doesn't have the 1/4 cock. The original should, though.Old Time Hunter wrote:Heck Nate don't know, I fondled it for five minutes and never checked the stampings on the barrel. Sounds like an original to me. I would suggest taking a dummy round or two with me to try through the action. There were many of the 25&32 WCF 92's converted back in the 50's and 60's but many of the folks that were doing them didn't have a good understanding of how to adjust the timing for the 357m ammo so some of those guns don't work too good. That's How I found this one. It was rebarreled but was basically just a single shot because it was never re-timed to work right with the 357m ammo. By the time I got it, the wood was oily and the metal was brown but the action was still tight so once I got it to feed I refinished everything.
