OCD is "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder."

I have four 1873 Colt single-action clones, three Ubertis from three different importers and another Italian clone whose name escapes me at the moment. Two Ubertis are in 45 Colt, and the other Uberti and Italian clone are in 32-20. The two 45s have one each grip frames in brass and steel, and the same for the two 32-20s. It's always bugged me, because with the barrel lengths being the same I always had to either pick up a gun or look at the muzzle to tell what caliber it was.

At the show Saturday I got a couple Wolff reduced force spring kits and decided to install them in two of the SAs that needed them. It occured to me that I needed to swap grip frames around so that both guns in a particular chambering would have the same grip frame color/material.

So that's how I passed part of Sunday afternoon, swapping grip frames so that the blued steel frames are on the 45s, and the 32-20s now wear the brass grip frames. Much better; I can tell at a glance what the chambering is of the gun I'm picking up out of the racks.

No pics, you all know what steel and brass framed 1873 revolvers look like.

The undertaking was not without issue. One of the guns needed the tip of its trigger filed about 0.025" to clear the brass grip frame. During assembly, I had the hammer cocked to check side-to side fit of the new lighter mainspring and somehow tripped it while my left index finger was across the top of the hammer recess in the frame. I felt the hammer fall and pinch my finger, but 10 -15 seocnds later the dozen or so blood drops on the bench sorta clued me in that it wasn't just a pinch. The cuts were DEEP, but after a few minutes of direct pressure and a couple drops of super glue I was back in business. Why pay $150 for an ER visit for sutures when there's cyanoacrylate adhesive on the bench? DIY, baby.

I don't know why people are against cloning. I wish someone would clone some 1873 Colts for me.
