Simmons Guns - Kansas

Anybody ever have any work performed by these folks? A friend of mine related that they do outstanding work. They are located in Kansas. Have been considering sending a gun to them.

While I have never had any work done by them I have herd shooters talk about their work especially when I was shootin trap& skeet in the '70's. they have been around along time. Jim.

For Winchester model 12's. Wow. I had a donut post trap gun that was outstsanding. I have not been in the shop for about 10-15 years . But it was fantastic. The new big box stores will probably finish them off in the future. But these are craftsmen. http://www.simmonsgun.com

That's what I've been told...When they restore an old Winchester, etc. they use the same process of Bluing, etc. that the factory did, so it does not affect the Value of your rifle etc....not as much anyway...

They were recommended to be by my Gunsmith, so I know they must do good work. My own experience did not go that well though. I sent them my Grandfather old Win. 37 Single Shot to have them build up the lug as it had gotten worn where it meets the pin on one side. They put some kind of brazing material on it which was substandard and did not hold to my satifsfaction. I wound up sending the gun to Keith Kearcher of Bend, OR, who built it up the lug properly with gun metal....locks up like a vault.

I get the feeling that my experience with Simmons might be a fluke. They are obviously good enough to stay in business and be well known. They were helpful and seem to try their best to fix the problem. I know they are known for their vent ribs.

I would ask Joe(86'er) here what he thinks.

I live near Simmons Gun Repair (80 miles). In the old days, 10years ago or more, they were the best. However I wouldn't take anything there now. The attitude towards customers and the quality of work if at best substandard. They now operate a custom metal cutting shop out of the same building. Business must not be good

Can you be more specific. Give some examples regarding thier "attitude towards customers and the quality of work?"

I may have to look elsewhere ??

The last time I took work in "They" told me what I wanted done and had no intrest in what I wanted. I wanted a rib reattached on a
Browning O/U and the barrels blued. They ended up reblueing the entire gun, without my permission, and charging much more than quoted. I didn't think the reblue was that good. Just my opinion. But others I know have had similar experences. Iwill try to get them to respond also.
