here kitty, kitty, kitty
Conifer Colorado from what I've been told.
Re: here kitty, kitty, kitty
Nice cat, but it irks me when the dudes sit a ways behind the critter. At least lay your rifle or bow on the animal so we have some perspective.

It's simply... "camera"... wagging when you don't.
Be proud of what it is for what it is. If you have to "enhance" it, go talk to Ron Jeremy...
(FWIW, I'd be proud to be HOLDING that cat when the pic was taken...)

No photo trick here.
Look at the guy on the left.
He's up against the animal.
It's a darned big cat.

Nope, he's not and it's either been shopped or just happened to turn out so that it looks the way it does. There is no way at this resolution to tell one danged thing about that photo, but pumas are not the same size as African lions or Asian tigers no matter how fat and well fed they are.FWiedner wrote:No photo trick here.

Yes, it's big... but would not look as big (but big enough) if one or more of them were holding it up.FWiedner wrote:No photo trick here.

Even a couple of feet does weird things for camera perspectives.

Re: here kitty, kitty, kitty
I tend to think it may be photoshopped!
1) No blood, and no visible wound, no one even has any blood on them. JUST WHITE SNOW!
2) The Cat looks HUGE! Probably a Record Book.
3) If I killed a record cat like that, my GRIN would be bigger than the Cat!

Re: here kitty, kitty, kitty
look all around the edge of the kitty. the belly, the top of the back. See the blur? The unusual shadow where the fur transitions to the snow or the people in the back?

And, really, my other post was only a little naughty, and kind of classy. No nudity, clearly of age. Seriously? It was classy! This is a classy place!

Re: here kitty, kitty, kitty
I've heard them, seen them several times when I lived and worked in the Tenaja region of southern CA... but. it was CA... even working for a ranch it was verboten to shoot one unless you could prove it was preying on stock. I was never sure who I hated more... the CA legislators or the NY owners! The first ranch I worked on maintained a "don't ask, don't tell" attitude! 3rd generation ranchers... with some of their hands being 6th or 7th that worked there.

No wonder that cat was shot - it was too big to hide.
Re: here kitty, kitty, kitty
The cat in the OP is a nice mature tom, the pumpkin shaped head is a give away. Chasing cougars with hounds has been a passion of mine for 30 years now, so I've seen a lion or two in a tree. Whether the photo has been enhanced or not I can't say, but clearly the hunters sitting back that far makes the cat appear bigger than he really is. My estimate of the live weight of the cougar would be in the 160 lbs range......still an exceptional lion.
Re: here kitty, kitty, kitty
Photo shopped. The nearest guy isn't even touching the cat. No shadows. TedH, that's how I would be holding the cat!!!!
And a cat like that is on my bucket list!

Re: here kitty, kitty, kitty
I'm with the photoshop'rs on this one--if so, too bad as it would seem unnecessry as it appears to a substantial cat regardless! My folks used to live in Conifer and said they saw one near their property once.
I've told this story before but...I had the honor and thrill of playing with one of these kittys several years back when my office (city) hosted a rep from an Oregon big cat preserve - seeking their counsel as we were considering establishing one also. Az Game & Fish participated as well and took advantage of the opportunity to hand over to them an orphaned year old male (a trucker had found as a cub). I took a time out from my work down the hall and rough housed with the critter for a full half hour out on our balcony, handler nearby I assure you! Like a dog at one year still filling out, the juvenile was not yet full sized (they said about 90%) - but sure looked it! The handler said "go ahead, pound on him" - and so I did as you might your big Lab - and he loved it. Super strong, with huge (huge) paws, I couldn't imagine those getting larger, and you could hear the purr from twenty feet. Loved to bare his teeth mouth wide open and growl to show me who really was boss. What a magnificent animal and experience of a lifetime!

Don't think photo shoped just photo opped,
people just too far behind it . That cat could
take you down right quick like if you were not
well heeled .
What a great looking cat ,wouldn't want him in
my neighborhood if had small children or me
without my 45.
