Is your's marked " CHUCKSTER" or says on the barrel " Akro-groove rifling ". Some of the older brochures advertised them as the Man-sized varmint rifle.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!
I hear from shooting buddies that those really shoot great. In fact, for what Mossbergs cost, I have never heard of a bad one, unlike newer Remingtons, etc. 'Ya done good but you hear what 22 mag ammo costs today? Ought to be a law.............or a way to reload 'em------------6
About 30 years ago I was shooting with a friend. We were shooting 22 rifles at rocks for a while, then I filled several plastic pop bottles with water. I shot one with 22 LR HP and was unimpressed. He shot one and it exploded. I said, "What are you shooting in that thing?" He said, "Longs." I said, "Let me see one." He hands me a 22 Mag! He called 22 LRs "shorts," and was shooting them in the Mossy 22 Mag!!

Time to add some new info. I added a scope to the Mossberg, definitely a funky-looking attachment setup !! But it was the only way to do it with what I had on-hand. And since a .22 Magnum doesn't recoil much at all, I figured no big deal. That's a Nikon Monarch UCC 1.5-4.5x20 scope. Rings are "low budget" brand.
Took it to the range yesterday to sight-in the scope. Put the target at 50 yards. Fortunately just a minor bit of adjustment to get POA/POI coincident.
WOW, this thing is a shooter !! When I was very very careful with good shooting form and technique, I could easily hold 1" groups, maybe even tighter than that.
Cheers,
Carl

I missed this the first time around but I'll go out on a limb and say I think the old Mossberg rimfires are undervalued for what you get and what they can do.
If I had the willpower to focus on one type of firearm to collect/accumulate, I feel I could do much worse than sticking to the old rimfire Mossbergs.
Nothing so needs reforming as other people's habits.
