I have one in the box, in the cosmoline, with all the goodies.
In light of recent events, I should be able to trade it for an extra woman someday.

Gun craziness, plus dwindling supply have driven the prices up quite a bit. A buddy was trying to buy one in January and he couldn't find one. At lest not for crazy prices. He managed to get one at Big 5 on sale for about a $125.00 (that's twice what I paid for my most expensive one. Sold them all over time, except
for the very first one I bought, cheapest and by far the worst made. That's why I kept it.)

Just be wary of the ammo. The first one shot 2 foot groups at 100 yards. I assumed it was old, worn and crappy from day one. Because of that it didn't get shot much. Which meant that big batch of ammo I bought lasted almost ten years. When it finally ran out I bought more surplus ammo, and that same rifle shot close to MOA. All those years it was the ammo and not the gun.

Picked it up today. It's a 91-30, from Georgia?, and made in 1937. Looks real decent, but not carefree and unused. I got it and picked up 200 rounds of FMJ non-corrosive for about 200 bucks.....Not like the old days, but, I won't lose any money or sleep over it, either. I like it...it's just as simple as I am :)

I have 7 or 8 different models in much better condition than that that I would sell for that amount with no dickering. Got any leads?

Try Armslist. Those prices I was seeing were actually about a month ago, and I did exaggerate a little for entertainment value as to condition. :D I think things are tapering off a bit, but when AIM can't even keep em in stock at $220, I think you could probably get $250 or more.

Here's a screen shot of current listings in Colorado.

Blaine, the Mosins were still being finished and fitted well in 1937. It's virtually certain your rifle saw service in World War II. Very fine purchase. Does it have an arrow in a star (Tula arsenal) or an arrow in a triangle (Izhevsk arsenal) on the receiver by the date?

Does that work better than a high concentration of Dawn?

When my prissy little honor role 16 year old daughter asked me for an AK47 for her birthday, I opted for an SKS as I wasn't sure she was serious or would really become a shooter, and she didn't really know the difference and was happy. I also made her disassemble it and clean all the cosmoline off (in the bathtub to her mothers horror ) and reassemble it. Turns out I was right and she hasn't shot it in years.

If you'd like some more ammo for her go to http://www.grafs.com They have Russian steel core for $227/880 rounds (actually, they sell it by the box but I ordered 44 and that's the shipped price). You will have to wait a bit for them to get to shipping it - they're like everybody right now - swamped.

The firing pin in a Mosin needs to be adjusted for depth Blaine. Please make sure that it's good (there is a Mosin multi-tool that usually ships with these rifles that has depth gauges for this purpose) before you shoot it! A punctured primer in a 52,000 PSI gun can be worrisome...

I noticed that nobody mentioned the safeties. Do any of you use the safety? My laminated stock M44 shoots fine, but I don't think I can still pull the safety to engage it. :) Just leave it chamber empty until needed I guess.

Keep in mind this is the shipped price - $227 shipped. So not so much more than 180 plus shipping - the stuff is heavy!

Besides - all ammo has gone up due to the ammo rush.
