.40S&W produced some suprising numbers today
Nice day today-----56 degrees, sunny, very little wind.
Took the Kel-Tec sub 2000(.40S&W)to the range today.
Wanted to do some chrony testing(Beta Chronograph)dealing with the Corbon 165gr JHP
Factory specs listed (from 4" barrel)was listed @ 1150fps
My results were an very impressive average of 1332fps out of the Sub2K(16.1" barrel)
This equates with a difference of 485ftlbs to 650ftlbs
I am very happy with these little black folders!
ps-------accurate too!

That's almost 10mm from a Glock20 standard barrel.

Re: .40S&W produced some suprising numbers today
I HAVE A 40 in a P94 seem to kick less than the P95 in 9mm and whacks the targets a lot harder. Kick myself for passing up those carbines when they were marked at $210 or so 3 years back. I knew Id regret it, an I still walked away.
Doesn't surprise after playing with TC carbines in 9mm and 45acp.

30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

I paid $340 for the 9mm version. I do wish I had the .40 for the extra power. However, still a hoot to shoot some cheap 9mm ball ammo. Never really gone for coke can accuracy, but I can nail a shoe box repeatedly at 100 yards.

My grandson has the 2000 in 9mm. I didn't think much of it when he bought it home sevral months ago. After a range session I kinda changed my mind, that little thing hit everything from 20 feet to 200 yards. The open sights and my 74 year old eyes work real good together, it's sure nuff a keeper.

Pistol caliber carbines are a hoot. Check out the Just Right carbines, they use Glock mags also.

But that was from a bench setup(sandbags) and the guys shoot at the M1 shoots all the time and are pretty good!
I will say using the MagTech 180gr FMJ (silver box)ammo mine will consistantly put all shots inside 7 inches on those smaller styrofoam dinner plates (and that is standing offhand with a steady rest gripping against a 5" dia standing oak.
Pretty darn good for the sights they come with.(that is well within what makes me very happy with that type weapon.
Never has jammed with anything, and again----"it folds in a 15" laptop case"
Carrying tactical(hands free)it only barely stretches from my shoulder top to my belt across the chest-----(thats a keeper knowing that tiny 4 lber will touch that accurate that far.
With that in mind when walking/hiking woods etc. this is much more appealing than either a longer heavier long gun or a handgun!
Re: .40S&W produced some suprising numbers today
Standing up at around 90 yards, 9 of 10 shots hit the standard 8 by 11" sheet of paper. I am also a NY resident, so let's enjoy our kel-tecs, for they are now an endangered species.

Treeman--is that offhand without a rest? or with a rest!Treeman72 wrote:Standing up at around 90 yards, 9 of 10 shots hit the standard 8 by 11" sheet of paper. I am also a NY resident, so let's enjoy our kel-tecs, for they are now an endangered species.
Dude, if you can pop 9 of 10 sheets @ 90yds without rest with that gun(trigger, though actually its not terrible, least mine isn't)
but still with that weapon------------------------your indeed a shooter!

Re: .40S&W produced some suprising numbers today
I've always liked Kel-Tec, and the Sub2K. Someone made a holster for those that opened it as you pulled it out. I wonder if it could handle 10mm.
Just sold an SU16B that I had for a couple years. Liked the idea of it, but once I got it I just never shot it. I did make a nice profit though.

Yes. That was me standing with no support today. At that range, the pink blade is wider than the computer paper.
I typically shoot at a shoe box full of dirt or set up the white paper on the side of a large box. The better target papers have gotten pricy, save them for scoped arms.

It also looks like a .45 ACP issue. My .40 runs just fine with standard Glock mags.

Thats good shooting friend!
Boy would I like to get you at one of our M1 shoots and see what you can do with a Match gun(like a Colt 6601)etc.
Here is the deal----------If(and not many can)I am not sure I can this year (have not been doing that type shooting since last Oct????)
If (offhand)you can place 10 shots out of 10 shots in a 6" dia bull (single loading)in 10 mins(and you can have a spotter)----You are one of the "da man's"
You hear a lot of people say they can----when they show up--------Not!
It is extremely tough in a match!(or anytime)
With you shooting that gun that good-----I believe you can!
We should get together sometime!
To see aprox.what your offhand score would be get some "SR targets" then shoot 10 slow fire single feed rds (unrested)at 100yds (sling is acceptable)(stool acceptable to sit between shots or to view your shots via standing spotting scope setup etc.Just have to shoot all 10 shots loading gun each load and do it within 10 mins.
Good Luck----cause its tough keeping them all in the black 10 ring.
We get guys ------miss black all shots/miss complete target/shoot other shooters targets ( and some are expienced hunters)
Definition of "mad"-----having a top shooting member working on a 470+ score and on final offhand scoring target have 11 or 12 rds on it (other dude has 8 or 9 rds on his)
Preban 30rd or 40rd mags in say the AR15's were always acceptable even though one rd was only put in gun each time (for offhand)----this aiding shooting combination of that affixed into inner elbow socket section /combined with a very good sling. NYS shooters will have to have theirs changed to a 10rds permanent fixed within that mag by I believe 01/15/2014

<grumbles something rude about keltec availability but continues to stare longingly at the sub2k anyway>
Oh well. I guess there's always MechTec, which coincidentally is available for a G20/10mm conversion.
