Flask Holder

I've wanted a new one, and have had several other C&B shooters ask about where I got mine.

Anyone see anything like this:

I would be interested but there are several leather workers that will make that for you .

I've never seen another as nice as this one was. The two halves of the shell are butted up against each other and whip stitched around the outside. The stitching is starting to come apart. I'll use some imitation catgut that I use on my mocassins to repair. But, the molded part is beyond my capabilities.

If I find a source, I'll let you know.

Have you tried Dixie Gun Works, they have tons of unusual items like that.

Give me some details on the flask.
I don't have time right now but I play with leather
sometimes and think I could make one of those.

Looks like 2 pieces, formed around the flask with
the back piece folded over and sewn in to form a
belt loop. The loop has a leather string to hold the
flask in place. This sound about right?

never seen one with the leather but i did find the flask at a garage sale a few years back

Yep, you've got the essence of the thing. 3-Â¾" wide and about 7-Â¼" tall.

One thing I hadn't noticed in all the years I've had this holder is how it's actually only one piece of leather:

I ain't got a clue what weight leather this is, but... it measures about .150" thick... seems about the same weight as holster leather, which I understand is normally around 8-9oz? Is that right?

There was a discussion a couple of years back on the CAS City board about how these seem to be a 20th Century invention. A couple of the folks there are pretty knowledgeable, and if there were 19th examples, it seems none have survived into the later half of the 20th.

My flask looks exactly like that except it is real shiny. Probably cause it's brand new from Perdesoli(sp).

Forgive my ignorance, but why have a flask holster? Is there a need for that kinda handiness?

No "NEED", but ah... the convenience! When shooting C&B in CAS there's two pistols, I usually start of loading as they start the stage description, am finished after about 3-4 shooters have shot. With the powder flask in the holster on the belt, that's one less item to carry to and fro the cart... or forget on the loading table. I could load at my cart, then I don't have to carry anything, but... the solid loading tables beat the heck outta resting the butt on my leg for ramming the balls down.
