Colonoscopy Day
Gentlemen, the Colonoscopy was a total non-event. The "stuff" was a mildly saline solution that was not that bad, and the procedure was 100% pleasant. Don't be scared of it if that's why you have not done it

Re: Colonoscopy Day
The procedure is a piece of cake, the prep can be a little uncomfortable - nothing when you consider the alternative. I had a good friend go from colon cancer and it was heart breaking to see.
BTW my last colonoscopy was on Jan 20 2009 - yep! inauguration day for "he who shall not be named" The Doc leaned over and whispered in my ear just before he let the sedation flow "looks like you are getting 2 for one today!! True story I will remember to to my dying day

About six months ago, they found blood on the test card...took forever to get an appointment to get scoped....I was a bit worried. Must have been a little roid or something...dennie wrote:I am sorry that I left out the others that had good news too! Good news to all! For those that haven't done it yet, "git 'er done"!

Congrats on the good test. I go every two years for reasons explained in Grizzlys post.

Re: Colonoscopy Day
Congrats on your clean plumbing!
Last March I had mine checked from both ends on the same day so they put me under for and hour or so, one non malignant polyp, and signs of H-pylori in the stomach but can't afford the $600 antibiotics so just trying to deal with it naturalpathically.

Re: Colonoscopy Day
Some folks tell me that they get a bit chapped from the flush solution. I have suggested Boudreaux's Butt Paste or A&D ointment. Both seem to work. As for the taste, you can talk to your Doctor and maybe be allowed to use Miralax or the generic, which both can be purchased OTC. It can be mixed with one of the clear or yellow Gatorade flavors and is much better tasting than the Golytely, Nulytely, HalfLytely, Gol-Lee Telly, or Go HEAVILY. OK, the last 2 terms are joke terms used in the Pharmacy to describe the effects. All of it uses a heavy, long chain molecule of Polyethylene Glycol that does not absorb from the stomach or intestines, and as such, causes the body to transport water into the intestines and colon to force it out. It carries anything that is in there that is not part of you with it. It can be unpleasant, but it is much less unpleasant than chemotherapy-radiation-surgery-ostomy procedure-put things back together surgery-recovery.

Re: Colonoscopy Day
Still waiting for mine to be scheduled. That's great news Blaine.
Re: Colonoscopy Day
Ji, my first one was an upper and lower to see if I was loosing blood from an ulcer, or my colon. As I was lying there in bed listening to the doc explain the probe and what he was going to do with it, I asked if he would do me a favor. Please do the upper first.
He just looked at me with a grin and said not to worry, they always wipe the probe off with a towel between probes!
He then assured me that he used 2 different probes!
