OT: Working At Cabelas or Sportsmens Warehouse

Post by Blaine »

Wonder what the wage range is for a full time firearms or fishhook salesman? I can't do it now, but after a couple things are paid off........Fer sure, after I retire, I want to do it part time......

Thanks! Thanks, very much. We are blessed with 3 SWHs and a Cabelas within an hour or less from where I'm at.

I may not be able to talk to him until Sunday. It may be Monday before I can post his answer as I will be out of town this weekend. He works back in the gunroom so he knows what the counter guys make.

I am lucky. They are building a Cabelas less than 10 miles from my house in Rapid City, SD. I was looking at getting a part time job there on the weekends just to get my foot in the door when I retire and for some extra toy's. I would be interested in what is said also

I wish we had a store close to us ...
Working there part time would be fun, not to mention discounts...
meet a bunch of people who love to hunt, fish, and shoot!
if you have the opportunity....do it.....
The closest store we have is gander mountain, 40 miles away
and Bass pro...70 or so miles away....

Why don't you call the store and ask them?

Maybe they'll tell you to come in and fill out an application

D'OH *smiling*

(They won't talk pay until you've been accepted for an interview and evidently, the employees have been asked not to discuss personnel actions within the company...might step on toes)

I think that would be pretty cool to do. I would have to be a "behind the scenes" man. I sometimes have people intolerence.

Can't say about Cabelas or SW, but at our Bass Pro store the 'green shirts' are only paid around 8 bucks and hour. That would be cashiers as well as the folks behind the gun counter.

Just got hired by Cabelas here in Maine. They will not talk any money during interviews until you pass the drug screen. Have my orientation in a week> Will try to post then....

I have often considered trying to find a job at a gunshop, after retirement, or open my own gunshop. I think I could probably sell guns, pretty good. I have had tables at gunshows before and sold, quite a bit of stuff.

However, I am afraid I would have one fault as a gun salesman, It's hard for me not to say exactly what I think about a gun, which might cost me sales, as I am not bashful about pointing out things I don't like about certain guns. I tend to tell it as I see it, and if I think a gun is a piece of stuff I tend to say so.

Sorry it took so long to get you an answer. My dad said they pay about 10 bucks an hour.

Specialty shop. Be a Stocking Dealer only of the stuff you like, and sell off (via internet) the trades you don't.

Yeah, I figgered it would be a huge cut from where I'm at now...That will be real nice for 3 or 4 days a week after I retire the second time in ten years or so.........
