We're having some typical January temperatures right now. It' s -47 and could be headed down to -52 later tonight. We could use some 4 above right about now.
Right now we have freezing rain hitting everything. Better submit this post before the pow.................................................................................................................................
We'll have a big rain and 40 degrees tonight, then back into the 60s for the weekend.
we're going bike-fishing.
My buddy is taking his refurbished '72 GMC RV on it's maiden voyage (smoke test) to the Guadalupe tailwater. It's not far, and my truck is the chase vehicle. But we'll be bringing bicycles and packing our rods and waders down river road.
also going to burn some cow, cigars and scotch
Griff, here is how we beat the summer heat - I call them cypress tunnels.
The rancher who owns this riverbank lives in a 1910 basse block house that isn't even air conditioned.
I just checked the outside thermometer and it read 76 degrees. I am worried this weather will make it too warm for the peach trees to produce this year. I would gladly trade some of our warm weather for some of the Alaskan cold. But, only enough to get it down to freezing or maybe a little below here. Fruit trees require some cold weather in order to produce fruit for the year, and it has not been cold enough here for that to happen. On the other hand, I have not had to run a heater or air conditioner either one for a while. My electric bill is going to be quite low.

It's 76 degrees and we're still fighting mosquitos. It doesn't look like we will have a winter this year.
PS. bulldog1935, the picture of the "Cypress Tunnels" looks just like the river in the movie Rio Lobo; the scene where Sgt. Tuscarora knock John Wayne off his horse.

If I ever think about moving to the USA it would have to be Texas, cause I don't like the cold.
A bit of trivia if anybody is curious:
A brass monkey is the brass ring that cannonballs are stacked on. Because the brass shrinks faster in the cold than the iron does, the cold freezes the balls off the brass monkey
