took home a two-digit 39 Century Ltd today!

Post by MacEntyre »

I just dropped by to show folks what I found at the gun show today...

An apparently unfired Marlin 39 Century Ltd with a two digit serial number!

I traded a S&W beater revolver and an old Mossberg 22magnum rifle for it.

It looks like the receiver is snake bit for a receiver peep sight... but Skinner brass would look good on this rifle.

For folks who have a 39, what peep sights do you use?

that's a beauty. the left side of the receiver is tapped for a receiver sight. I took mine off and put a bullseye barrel sight on. it seems to work better for the stage my eyesight is in.

I'm going to try a Marbles bullseye sight... it's inexpensive, and helps retain the slim nature of the 39...

...which was fired for the first time ever this afternoon. It's first shot took down a squirrel!

Here's a couple of pictures of my brother shooting our father's Marlin Mountie in the '60s.
One reason I wanted a 39 Century Ltd was because dad sold his... or maybe it was stolen... I forget.

Anyway, just assumin' you'uns is interested in old pics of old Marlins in use.
