OT- Need some puter help.

Post by J Miller »

We finally got our "new" tower to the tech and got it squared away.

Now I need to do a back up of my bookmarks so I can update them on the new tower. I'm running Mozilla Firefox and I can't figure out how to do a favorites back up and put it on a disc.
I've done it before but I just can't remember how.

Help.

Joe

I'm not sure about Firefox, but if you right click on a favorite, or a file of favorites won't you get a Send To menu? Then I think you can go straight to the CDRW or at least desktop and then to a backup media....and then again, I could be full of it....

I run Firefox too. Try clicking on the bookmarks tab, then when it drops down you should see an item that says "get bookmark add ons" look in there and see if something there doesn't help you.

G'Mornin', Joe!

OK. Bookmark backup on Firefox:

Go to "Bookmarks" in the menu at the top of the Firefox window.

Click on "Organize Bookmarks" on the drop down menu

That opens a new window.

In this new window, click on "File"

Then click on "Export" on the dropdown menu.

Save the bookmarks in a place you'll be able to find (a "thumb drive", "flash drive", "USB drive" is a great tool for moving things between systems)

I'd suggest you save it with a file name like "Bookmarks_2008-03-12.htm" That not only gives you a back up, it tells you when you backed them up. And you can do a back up every month or so (more often if you book mark a bunch) and still keep the various versions separate.

Anyway, I hope this helps.

AmBraCol,

Thanks, that worked just fine. Got in on a floppy and will transfer it when we get the other unit set up.

Now I just wish all the other stuff was that easy.
