Makes you wanna cry...
We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle, our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand, of overwhelming power on the other.

Looks like it was in a fire.
That rear sight alone looks to worth $50.

Gosh, what END? Looks like an excellent opportunity to breathe new life into something someone else neglected! Might even be worthy as the basis for a project. Even if it was in a fire, a little judicious xraying and anealing just might bring it back to life. Probably cost more than buying a working example without the built in challenges, but... that's why project guns are so much fun!

I am tempted, but... with a huge bill coming due on the rebuilding of my truck, (body work, paint and engine rebuild), I'm afraid to spend anything right now.Old Ironsights wrote:My thoughts exactly Griff.

It breaks my heart to see such a fine weapon ruined. What a shame
I have a 1937 Deluxe "Short Rifle," with a bolt peep and will not depart with her until death. She handles so much better than my '51 Standard with 24" barrel. And, the '37 is made better. Both are quality rifles, but you can tell a difference. The action on the '37 is tighter and smoother...

I don't know......I don't see this as a project gun. I see it as expensive aggravation. The receiver is too far gone. By the time your done paying for shipping and other costs, it will be over 5 c-notes. The receiver is pitted so badly, its junk. Yea, the bolt peep (if its not pitted) is worth 3. After a lot of time and ag and paying for classified ads, etc. , you might net 2 or 3. Here in S.E. Pennsylvania, there are plenty of well worn, but acceptable 71's for 10-12. Now, I don't see 'em everyday, but I probably run into a half dozen a year in that shape.--------Sixgun

It sure looks like it was in a fire. I wouldn't touch it.

If the stock isn't charred then it should be fine heat-treat wise. The guy is selling the wood separate (so it appears).
All because somebody couldn't care for their property. I've seen that sort of thing before with guns stored in an attic.
